another year, another *insert tim robinson meme*

i’m 32 today! and i’m putting out this album that i finished 2 years ago almost to the day. there’s either a correlation or causation between me becoming an old man and no longer dreaming of “being a rapper” (lol) — but either way, i’m very proud & grateful for having been able to put together a body of work that is an expression of me, that says something, and that hopefully my potential future kids and grandkids can listen back to, to enjoy and chuckle with. Some great people i owe a great deal of gratitude for helping me grow as a person and express myself as an artist: • Thank you Zubin @zubinhensler for embodying the archetype of what a great mentor and teacher can be. Thank you for pushing me, for being real with me, for being so compassionate and understanding — and for being so damn SKILLED! None of this would have happened without you. i wrote this letter for my sangha’s monthly “engaged buddhism” email but more than that i wrote it for my fellow jews who find themselves torn in this time, and for those who want fodder in their advocacy for a ceasefire. i think one of the most counterproductive narratives is that of “it is actually so simple.” to act as if it is “simple” creates a chasm and sets back any movement for truth and reconciliation, for human rights and reparations, and for revolutionary transformation. but i think there is at least one simple thing: the idea that the deaths of children, or of anyone — thousands of children, it should be said — can be treated as simply “collateral damage” or “the cost of war”, that their murders can be excused as inevitable in attempts to get rid of t3rr0r!sts or can be explained away as “they’re used as human shields”, is so dehumanizing, so poisonous internally and insidious in our society, and a completely unnatural and inhumane normalization that must be outright rejected at all costs. i will post a link to the letter in my story in case anyone would like to check my sources 👋
