For Patternmaking class this week, I have to draft pattern pieces for a modified bodice from my sloper and a Peter Pan collar to fit, then sew my sample with muslin. Theo insisted on joining me at the machine. First time sewing with a puppy on my lap. He (We) did pretty well! I put the collar on him backwards right after we finished sewing, so I added a photo of him wearing the collar properly. #patternmaking #peterpancollar #fashionschool #dogsofinstagram #alinasew

I made my mom this Paper Theory LB Pullover in a Joann Fabrics fleece during peak COVID in 2020. Today, I completed 1 of 5 fall quarter classes as a full time 1st year student in the Seattle Central @sccappareldesign program! With a BA in linguistics with a few minors (music, art history, and Japanese), then an MA in TESOL, then a software development certification, it’s time for more school. This is an 8-gore skirt, which I custom fitted to my body, drafted from scratch, with a waistband tailored for my (after lunch) waist. After the pattern was finalized, I constructed the skirt with a fabric of my choice. It has an invisible zipper, and a hook and bar closure. I am very happy with how my skirt turned out. During this fall quarter finals week, I will turn in 2 major projects, give a final presentation, and take 2 final exams. I will also play 9 shows this week, between @auburnsymphonyo and @the5thavenuetheatre . Yes, it is totally insane. And I am so grateful to be doing the things I love, living how I want to live. 1 project and 1 show down. Staying calm, cool, and collected. (Crazy, sexy, cool.)

Practicing taking pictures together with Theo in my Peppermint Magazine wrap skirt 💙 This was my first completed sewing project after Derek passed. A dear friend traced and cut out the pattern pieces onto Swedish tracing paper, and mailed them to me. A project with no fasteners or fitting, just rectangles, for easing back into sewing. Her gift was perfect at the time. I didn’t have to answer any questions, she knew my size already, and the pattern pieces showed up in my mailbox with a sweet little love note. Interesting how certain projects become important life markers. I have a few knitting projects from various moments when Derek was in the hospital.
