Thank you to @toronto__based@tallyfilmfest@cinemayearzero for screening the film. No thank you to all those that did not 😎.
Special thanks to @forgetwhoweare & @mitchlaughlove for moral support and feedback.
It’s all there in one of the slides, but I’ll say it again: this is the most fruitful collaborative experience to date. It was fun and rewarding to chop it up with this one of a kind cast and crew. We made some evil magic. Enjoy this on Valentine’s Day.
Log it on Letterboxd if you love it, but especially if you hate it.
The Italian Way as presented by Donato
More scenes from Abruzzo—or rather, @lifeinabruzzoitaly —with the ever-charismatic Donato. He runs a bottega in Lanciano, which my parents (who are our translators) visited during a jaunt. His animation and enthusiasm instantly turned them into friends, and it would have been a missed opportunity not to bring the crew along to chat with him.

Ciao amici!
We’re excited to share that we will be bringing Sugo! to @hotdocsindustry Deal Maker program next month in Toronto, where we’ll be meeting with industry representatives to facilitate the next steps in our project’s journey.
Many thanks to all of you who have supported this film from the beginning—we hope to share this story with you all soon ❤️ 🍅
We had a wonderful time capturing @tremaribakery & @thatnonnalife ’s Sunday Sauce event for our film.
Great food, even better company!
Here’s a sneak peek at all the mouth watering moments. 🎥 🍝

Sights & Sounds: Lanciano
Continuing with our last two posts, take in the sights and sounds of Lanciano before the feste di settembre 2023. It’s been over a year since we shot part of our film there, but we still think about it everyday.
More like this to come surrounding our time in Abruzzo, Calabria and Sicily in conjunction with our travelogues. Stay tuned.

Travelogue No. 02 – September 2023 – Lanciano, Chieti della regione Abruzzo
In 2000, I visited Italy with my family for the first time, accompanying my father, who was coaching a youth soccer team in a northern tournament. Afterward, we traveled to Lanciano and the contrade of Sant’Amato to visit my bisnonni (great-grandparents) and celebrate the Feste di Settembre with our paisani.
Returning in 2023 with a small film crew, this full-circle moment brought me back to the same celebrations. Friends of my Nonni welcomed us, sharing their home, making passata together, and exploring their campagna. We ended with a feast in the piazza during the festa.
Fact: Abruzzese make the best pasta e fagioli in the world.
In conjunction with my last post, here you can listen to Vito Teti eloquently speak about how the preparation of tomato sauce is a tradition of not only preservation, but togetherness.
Following this first post, you will find short sequences from the films of Vittorio De Seta, the major influence on our film. Though purely observational, these films capture and exemplify the lives of the workers and their families in Sicily.
Clip 1: Vito Teti, anthropologist
Clip 2 & 3: Pescherecci (Fishing Boats)
Clip 4, 5 & 6: Le tempi di li pisci spata (the Age of the Swordfish)
Clip 7: Pasqua in Sicilia (Easter in Sicily)
