☁️☁️ less than two weeks until our screening of PERMANENT TOURIST, dir. Alex Lo (@alx.alr ). Not one to be missed. ~~~~~~~~ ⬜️ A YOUNG MAN REFLECTS ON WHETHER TO STAY IN TORONTO OR RETURN TO HONG KONG. ~~~~~~~~ "The truest portrait of Hong Kong diasporic life in the urban cracks of Toronto. No fluff. No filler." - @thom.chan "The greatest, raw-est, real-est, most-needed, zeitgeist-capturing Toronto-of-the-NOW feature to come along in years." - @theymightbemovies "Unlike a lot of mumblecore adjacent stuff, this one is actually about something important." - @mikemacera ~~~~~~~~ 🎞️ preceded by the companion short WHY DO ANTS GO BACK TO THEIR NEST. 🎞️🎞️ post-screening q&a w/ cast and crew 🛩️ fri mar 27th, 8:30 pm 🛩️🛩️ @paradiseonbloor 🎟️🎟️ link in bio. ✂️ trailer by @hannah_katarina 🫂🫂 in collaboration w/ @zerozerofilms_00

⬜️⬜️ three weeks to go until our screening of Alex Lo's (@alx.alr ) PERMANENT TOURIST. 🖊️🖊️ event poster by @blond_boii "A stunningly true portrait of one Hong Kong immigrant's struggle to find their footing in the urban cracks of Toronto. PERMANENT TOURIST floats above other 'asian diaspora' films like a breath of fresh air, avoiding the cliches and narrative tropes of the genre. Instead, Lo's direction is sharp and succinct, telling a deeply personal tale of one being caught between abstract worlds. Its economical mode of production, shot on iPhones for zero money, is testament to Lo's directorial skill--not a single shot is wasted; and most shots look sick hell--while extending the film's themes of capitalist isolation, practicality, and being broke as shit. It's everything I love about the movies." - @thom.chan ⬛️ preceded by the companion short WHY DO ANTS GO BACK TO THEIR NEST? ⬛️⬛️ post-screening Q&A w/ cast and crew 🌫️ fri mar 27th, 8:30 pm 🌫️🌫️ @paradiseonbloor 🎟️🎟️ link in bio 0️⃣0️⃣ in collaboration w/ @zerozerofilms_00

We’re thrilled to be premiering our newest short film ‘DEXTRA_1’ by @alx.alr and @dextra.dextra.readallabouther at @fringefilmfest next week! It will play in the “Queer Utopias” program at Rich Mix in London, UK on September 20th at 12:00pm. This is quite a special film for us. It’s personal to Dextra, vulnerable and we can’t wait to screen it for everyone! And yes, this is indeed a ‘Sebastian_1’ sequel!! Poster design by @111_111r111

Our short film IMMUNITY will now be going to the prairies for its Manitoba Premiere at @gimlifilm this coming week! It will play in the program “BOYS DO CRY” at the Lady of the Lake Theatre on July 23rd at 1:00pm and also on July 25th at 6:30pm. I’m stoked we get the opportunity to screen the film twice for audiences at Gimli and participate in a festival with a growing cinema-loving community!

Poster design for @alx.alr ‘s debut feature film Permanent Tourist (就當我在異地旅遊). With original artwork by Lo Ho Wah The poster took a very intimate approach with a high focus on physical details such as the strokes of the pencil, bleeding of the ink, even printing and rescanning digitally added type to make it appear more tangible and man-made. The film title at the top right is a physical stamp which was designed and created to emulate similar stamps used by border officers when entering or leaving a country. The physical stamp is also in combination with an original drawing by Lo Ho Wah. The way in which the drawing is laid out on the poster is to give the appearance of fragmented memories which the protagonist, Marcus, experiences. What is this film? This is a DIY film about a post-graduate international student deciding whether he wants to stay in Canada or return home to Hong Kong after his student visa expires. The film sheds light on the international student experience as it transitions into a work visa. Hope to show yall the film again soon! Stay tuned!

Our short film IMMUNITY will be going west for its Alberta Premiere at @calgaryundergroundfilm next week! We’re very excited to share the film with audiences in Calgary. The film will play in the program “Shorts Package: Laughing Through Life (and Death)” at the Globe Cinema on Saturday, April 19th at 4:15pm. This is a festival we’ve admired from afar for a while now so we’re absolutely thrilled to get a chance to participate and screen alongside films from across the continent and beyond.
