The Palay’al species was also specifically designed first as a dignitary/ council member and then in Ukeck Market scene. So it had to stand out as both sets were dark with moody lighting with heavy atmosphere. This colour combo is one of my favourites. It just looks so good (In my opinion:) When I saw the blue line work reference @alexrotundo found I knew immediately what I wanted the base colour to be. @lxdesignsmix again with the amazing stencils which took some figuring out to keep it consistent. We also knew this one had to be continued on cadets after it was established as it was so striking. The Luleng species was specifically designed for the Ukeck Market scene in episode 9. It was dark, moody with heavy atmosphere. Our costume designer @averyplewes designed these amazing costumes with a lot textured layers that were weathered yet fashionable. Our mandate for this look was a bright pop of colour that would contrast the set and costume. We knew which background performer we wanted to use for this look which yet again made our fellow team member @ellestaubynbeauty the perfect test subject. Yasmine Crosdale designed and made this wig which was a perfect contrast to the makeup design. The Adropiae species was designed for a stunt that was only in one scene. We already had a collection of feathers and various references to pull from. This design is fun when you only have to do it once. We all decided pretty quickly that feather continuity is not the way to go so we didn’t replicate this look for the cadets. HOD Hair @ryanreedhair applied the wig and used his hairline and feathers for a seamless transition to complete the look. The inspiration for the Fractid species was from several mask and makeup references that @taliareingold_makeupartist sourced. This was also initially done on a stuntman that was going to repel so again durability was our main priority. Although this alien isn’t as colourful and reflective as some of the others it stood out in a different way. We loved how this design turned out, especially after @ryanrreed designed the wig so we continued to use it for cadets. The concept for the Haplee species started with my team pointing out that we haven’t designed a pink Allen as yet because I’m not a fan of pink and it is missing from of colour options. Plain and simple:) We also saw a hair reference that Key Hair Stylist Yasmine Crosdale had that would work well with our makeup design. After Talia & Alex did some testing @alexrotundo figured out the right shade of pink and once the wig was done. It all came together nicely. The concept for the Fezzen species was from @neetsagram . Like all our other aliens it went through multiple tests. At one point it was a lighter blue with gold but then we decided it would be a better contrast if we went with a cobalt blue and dry brush the gold onto the textured pieces. We also realized that this would look better on a darker skin tone which made @ellestaubynbeauty who is part of the makeup team a perfect candidate to run the test on. Needless to say Fezzen became one of the shows favorite aliens. The Chend makeup was originally designed for a stunt guy who was going to repel on a set with dark lighting. We needed something bright, reflective and durable because once the stunt went into his harness, we had little to no access to him for touch ups. As usual the entire makeup team had input. @ryanreedhair designed the wig. The mullet gave a lil rock n roll vibe to the look. After the stunt played we integrated the Chend species for background cadets. Our tattoo cadet only played in one scene but the process and design concept was very thorough. @julienrotundo did his research when he designed the tattoos for this character. We wanted to give a nod to a detail from Star Trek The Original Series. The character Trelane had antiques and an obsession with 18 century antiques on earth in the year 2267. With that, our tattoos reflect Baroque, Georgian and Victorian jewelry with a modern edge. Inspired by Ryan Ashley. Have you ever met a space queen? Well @jackiecoxnyc was absolutely flawless. We wanted to do something completely different. We all had creative input on this design. This look was a mix of arts & crafts that included decals made by @vittoriomasecchia and @lxdesignsmix @neetsagram made the eyebrows with printed outs made by @lxdesignsmix and did a flawless application. @alexrotundo @taliareingold_makeupartist There are levels to this!!!
