We're excited to welcome Alex LoRe to the #ConnFamily! đˇ
Praised by The New York Times as a saxophonist who is â...making the connections among about 70 yearsâ worth of contemplative, articulate and light-toned players,â Alex LoRe has become one of the most compelling alto saxophonists and composers on todayâs New York music scene. A student of jazz luminaries Bunky Green, Lee Konitz, and George Garzone, LoRe developed a voice defined by warmth, clarity, and sophistication. His music draws from a wide spectrum of influencesâfrom contemporary classical repertoire to modern jazz and popular stylesâreflecting a curiosity and openness that continue to shape his artistic path. He has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
As a bandleader, LoRe has released five acclaimed albums and contributed to more than two dozen others as a sideman, collaborating with a diverse range of artists and continually expanding his musical narrative. He is a recipient of both Chamber Music America Artistic Projects and South Arts Jazz Road grants, and in 2021 published a jazz duet book alongside a complete adaptation of J.S. Bachâs Goldberg Variations for saxophone duos, trios, and quartets.
A dedicated educator, LoRe serves on the saxophone faculty at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School, University of Hartford, and maintains a global private studio, both in-person and online. His teaching centers on the individual, encouraging curiosity and authentic artistic growth in each student.
Beyond music, LoReâs creativity extends to the kitchen. The son of a Sicilian executive chef, he grew up in his fatherâs restaurants and remains an avid cook and baker, with passions spanning Italian and Thai cuisine, sourdough, and panettone. He lives in the New York City area and proudly endorses Conn Selmer and Boston Sax Shop.
Alex plays the CAS811 âConnfirmationâ Saxophone.

Getting through the entire melody of Don Byas over Stardust. Byasâs virtuosity is always humbling when transcribing him - his lines have such fluidity in the most effortless ways. Getting these timbres to match with alternate fingerings is no joke! I love transcribing tenor players on alto because it really makes me focus on getting my sound together in the middle and lower registers. This track is from a complete Charlie Christian compilation đˇ
