"The body is a utopia and we need to give it love and devotion no matter what form it has. Every body is beauty." Q&A with Artist and Independent designer Vanessa Flynn @vanessaflynndoesart following our shoot in @rollupmagazineok cover story for #42 Intuitive Issue What is your aesthetic? "Plastic goth femme, perhaps" Where does your inspiration come from? "My work always comes back to the body and to fight the mind/body dualism. To have the body completely present in the corpereal realm...I started making things to remind me that I have a whole ass incredible beautiful moving utopian body. So I like to create things that are constricting, tactile, movement orientated, makes the body perspire and so on. Low self body image messes with us so badly that we don’t love the utopian vessel that we are in." What is your process ? "I get a glimmer of a piece or a blurry feeling in my mind.... I let that blurry vision and feeling sparkle in my brain...then I use my body and hands to try and bring it into reality. The creation process always reveals the piece then I put it on and see if it matches that feeling I had in my mind...I allow myself a lot of fluidity with creating. There really isn’t a set outcome, it’s as the process of making is based on a feeling rather than a certain look." Where would you like to take your work or process in the future? "I have always been fascinated with leather so would like to gain more skills with that medium. And more pieces for dancers or performers and anyone on stage would be sick." How was the photoshoot process for you? "It took me some time to come around to it as you know I called that morning saying I didn’t want to do it but just needed to get my little fears out and then was very happy and comfy doing it. You made me feel so good. Thank you so much angel pie. It was so fun."

This is your reminder to BREATHE billboard campaign at Soho House, Berlin, this summer as a part of my ongoing work with boutique fitness studios BECYCLE & BEYOND - a sanctuary for intentional movement, social connection, and holistic well-being - in 3 beautiful locations across Berlin. @becycleberlin @beyondbln This is your reminder to BREATHE: a concept centred around modern life - a reminder to get off your devices, carve out some time in your busy schedule to reconnect with your body, and ground yourself through movement, social connection and the breath. It has been such a beautiful time to work with all of the incredibly skilled instructors and to capture the beautifully curated spaces (I'm such a sucker for nice interiors!) and work with the amazing team working behind the scenes, bringing the studios to life.
