Hubungan antara manusia dan alam tidak lagi serasi, tapi sumbang dan rusak. Eksploitasi besar-besaran atas alam telah menghancurkan planet kita, dan pada saat yang bersamaan merugikan spesies manusia sendiri. Spesies ini mengidap “spesies-isme” yang memandang spesies lain yang lebih rendah -binatang, tetumbuhan- layak dimanfaatkan dengan tanpa batas. Manusia adalah sosok oportunis ekologi yang akan bertahan dari kepunahan dengan mentolerir berbagai cara perkembangbiakannya, seperti hama. Dengan cara itulah supremasinya ditegakkan di masa kini.
Motif kritis ini dihadirkan oleh Agugn melalui karya-karya cukilan berwarna dengan teknik reduksi. Lembar papan linoleum akan “habis” dengan sekali pakai. Tokoh sentral pada karya-karya Agugn yang berukuran besar adalah manusia berkepala dua, mewakili sifat gandanya: makhluk superior yang sekaligus penuh luka. Sekelilingnya adalah alam yang merunduk dengan tetumbuhan berduri tajam, berbuah tengkorak manusia, burung-burung serta serangga yang berkemampuan adaptasi. Pola komposisi yang digunakan untuk karya berukuran besar ini (Painless Growth) hampir simetris, menggabungkan rangkaian bingkai. Pembagian ini melambangkan sifat dunia kita yang terfragmentasi, dan upaya untuk melindunginya tersebar serta terputus-putus. Bumi berwarna keunguan tampak meleleh pada genggaman tangan raksasa yang mati rasa, berpeluang terbatas untuk bertahan seperti tampak pada karya berukuran lebih kecil, Painful Grasp (Study #3 for Painless Growth).
Warna perak berkilau pada kertas bertekstur buatan tangan membersitkan kamuflase: dunia yang seakan-akan tertata namun penuh kebinasaan. Dualitas ini menimbulkan keseimbangan rumit untuk keberlanjutan kehidupan di masa depan.

Agugn shapes ideas into prints through handmade paper, his own ink, and collaborative Risograph techniques in Contrast/Harmony at meimei. This exhibition is the second pop-up gallery series by Ruang Fungsi at meimei, in collaboration with Pulau Projects, and runs until 21 January 2026.
