Gum Oil sendiri merupakan kombinasi teknik litografi (1798) dan Gum Bichromate (1850).

In a short weekend escape to Bali, Mahacaraka (@mahacaraka ) set out to photograph Niang Soli, a 107-year-old living legend of the Legong dance whose movements carry centuries of Balinese devotion and grace. Before the lens, she becomes less a subject and more a living archive of a tradition that refuses to disappear.
A photograph tells one story. In print, it tells another. In collaboration with Devfto Printmaking Institute (@devfto ), each photograph was then guided through the process of gum oil printing, where light and texture are coaxed from the image in ways that digital screens cannot replicate. What begins as a photograph becomes something richer and more enduring. Stay tuned for upcoming journeys and the next chapter of exploration with Mahacaraka®.

In Witness in Nocturnal Glare (2025), Cecil Mariani extends an ongoing inquiry into ancestor worship, tracing the tension between official records and felt presence. Through layered exposures, a synthetic guardian-ancestor surfaces—not as depiction, but as a time-relic shaped by delay, chemistry, transparency, and opacity.
Her approach emphasizes surface and intensity, creating a visual field that feels both precise and immersive.
