[SAT.4/4] @BoomboxLA is back celebrating #404DAY with VOL.28 of our PRODUCER SHOWCASE series featuring beat icons @DAREALDIBIASE + @AFTA1 + the Boombox debuts of @MARQUESMURREY + @BRAVODOMO all rocking SP-404 sets!!
One of the most important names to come out of the influential early 2000s Los Angeles beat scene, the legend DIBIA$E has been snapping necks for well over 2 decades. Coming up through the ranks of local beat battles, his 2007 “Up The Joystick” EP created its own subgenre with its combination savage drums, wonky swing, and innovative flips of classic 8-bit video games. In 2007 he also rocked his first official beat set...at our 1-Year Anniversary! He’s since released countless albums and become one of the faces of hip hop/lofi production. We couldn’t be more hyped to have one of our OGs back on the set for another full-circle moment on his trusty 404!
Another don of the early 2000s beat scene, AFTA-1’s ethereal productions and reclusive nature have pushed him to mythical status among beat fans. His 2008 “Aftathoughts Vol. 1” LP is an opus of mystical soundscapes over serious slaps, the likes of which the world had not yet heard. It spawned entire movements as Joe Kay once told us that Afta-1 is one of the reasons he founded Soulection. We were also honored to book Afta for his first ever live set at our 5th official Producer Showcase in 2009. Don’t miss this incredibly rare appearance from one of our favorite beat gurus!
We’re also honored to be hosting first-time callers MARQUES MURREY and BRAVODOMO! Marques got his start in church playing keys before pivoting to production where his soulful flips earned him an invite to Jazzy Jeff’s infamous Playlist Retreat. Portland born/Sacramento based BravoDomo’s made a name for himself in the krump scene producing high-energy beats and remixes across multiple genres. We can’t wait to hear what these 2 are gonna drop on us for 404 Day!
