"How do you survive Canadian winters"? I don't. I realized really early on me and the cold just weren't going to be friends... ever. Regardless of how many jackets, thermals or seasons passed. Beyond that, Christmas is one of my favourite holidays and the only time annually I get to see my whole family. In 2017 I unknowingly made the decision to become a snowbird, flocking back to Nairobi for the winter for a month (at first) then slowly longer. It made the years easier to get through. After the pandemic getting to be home again once a year, feels even more sacred. It's a blessing and privilege, especially knowing the people and friends I've lost since. It's a reminder to live every moment more fully. More present. But time fades memory, I forgot how to live the past few years, most days it felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. As the saying goes "Being alive isn't the miracle, feeling alive is". Slowly but surely, I'm finding my spark again and I couldn't be more grateful.
