The beauty of Afrosurrealism lies in its ability to reimagine Black identity, culture, and history through a lens that blends the real with the magical. @echoes.story brings Afrosurrealism to life in a breathtaking short film about Igbo spirituality and the Nigerian civil war that blurs the line between the seen and unseen. You are invited to the public screening of the short Film of @echoes.story by @figaero and @ogbe_ showing this Saturday at @itsok.world . Click the link in bio to cop your ticket 🔥

We did a thing and created a comic book as part of the collection of work that tells the full story of ECHOES. Featuring original artwork by @ogbe_ & illustrated by @umiiamara the pages give a view into the backstory of our characters. Limited copies will be available to purchase on the opening night!!

"The difference a year can make" A quote I often tell myself when I find myself looking down the barrel of a decision or task that seems difficult or impossible in the moment. 13 months ago, I submitted 3 grant application within a week of each other for a project about my Igbo/Nigerian heritage, with the thought that any feedback recieved was a positive and a win regardless of if it got accepted. Getting news of winning 2 of 3 felt unreal to me, mostly because I now had no excuse not to execute the vision I laid out. 1 year later, the process of realizing this body of work has taught me personal and professional lessons about perseverance, patience, pushing past my limits, and leading with empathy. I look at who I was 3, 6, and 12 months prior and see different people in each phase, learning from the previous versions and always eager to meet the next. Getting to showcase ECHOES with old and new friends has it even more special for me.
