It has been a great pleasure to welcome artists from @societyofwildlifeartists back to @massingham_heath this week. As a taster of more to come here are two field paintings recording an early morning goshawk encounter by the incredibly talented @darrennwoodhead . This week we have a residency of up to 14 artists on The Little Massingham Estate, rounding off a year of recording the restoration of Massingham Heath and the wildlife of the wider estate. Publication of an art book with text by Nick Acheson @thewillowtit and exhibitions of the work generated are planned over the next year.

Here at North Down Craft Collective we’ve been reliving our recent Safe Hands Project workshops via some fantastic photographs captured by our member and professional photographer @janine.boyd.photography Janine spent time with us on each weekend recording the work, the process, the relationships, the creativity and the joy of working together. We’ve been working behind the scenes since February to make plans for continuing and developing the project this year and hope to bring news very soon of what we have in store for 2026/27. We will once again be working with @womensaid_nda on the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls initiative and our wonderful hosts @wwtcastleespie and hope to bring our creativity and workshop experience to more groups within our local area. Our weekly spotlight is on Craft NI Makers Directory member Adele Pound! Adele is a wildlife paper and watercolour artist. Inspired by the natural world, her paper art creations and drawings depict immediately recognisable species through the use of simple shapes and colours. Each design is a learning process that expands Adele’s self taught paper engineering skills, and reveals new ideas and possibilities for the next design. Adele also sells cards, craft kits and leads workshops in paper bird-making. A very happy International Women’s Day to all the women makers, customers and partners! 🌺 We had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women in craft earlier this week when Craft NI was invited to bring a selection of works from women makers to an IWD event in Belfast City Hall! Huge thanks and congratulations to our fab team of members who hosted a fantastic series of workshops over the last two weekends as part of our Safe Hands project in conjunction with @womensaid_nda Students from @bangoracademy Art Department @art_basfc enjoyed two full days of creative workshops at the gorgeous venue of @wwtcastleespie exploring processes and techniques in paper art, textiles, ceramics, woodwork, macrame, embroidery, printmaking and pyrography. Our members delivered engaging and inspiring workshops under our Safe Hands banner supported by @womensaid_nda promoting the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls initiative. We’re already looking forward to planning our next projects aiming to engage young people with craft alongside meaningful conversations. I had a wonderful day today helping out my @northdowncraftcollective buddies at the launch of their Safe Hands project. Table tops were seriously busy as we hosted students from Bangor Academy at WWT Castle Espie for a series of taster craft workshops in conjunction with @womensaidni as part of the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Initiative. Craft is such a great vehicle for promoting community, care, respect, conversation, listening and understanding! Fab day! Great people!

We had the best day today @wwtcastleespie as we launched our Safe Hands project in conjunction with @womensaid_nda and the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls initiative and some fantastic art students from @art_basfc @bangoracademy ! NDCC members hosted a series of taster workshops for the students, teachers and Women’s Aid team in the wonderfully welcoming and inspiring location of WWT Castle Espie. Craft, conversation, positivity, listening, supporting and engaging were all on the agenda today and the vibe was simply amazing all day long!
