Our next Circle of Seasons Art & Craft Collective meets on 3rd June from 7pm to 8.45pm in Boom Studios, Bangor. We have the amazing Artist, Teacher and Horticulturalist, Claire Dunwoody of Nodo Knots joining us this month to lead us in a beautifully nature connected activity. We will be creating three mini wreaths from impressions of hawthorn foliage in clay and woven willow. Totally beginner friendly and a wonderful way to ground yourself in nature and sensory play. Hawthorns has some really interesting lore in Irish history. They were said to be a portal to the fairy world (and fairies weren't always so sweet!). Come along, have a cuppa and enjoy some goodies from Kraken Cakes NI. We are a friendly bunch. To book go to .uk/wildandcrafted

Week 1 of my Painting with Acrylics course is complete! Great work getting to know the paints, trying some methods for blending and exploring their application in a monochrome study. If you have FOMO, and have used acrylics a little before, you'd be suitable to join us from week 2 onwards - next class is colour mixing and theory (skipping a week for holidays, back Thurs 21st 10am-noon) I'd need to arrange your booking for you as the course has started, but just DM me and I'd be happy to do that. Well done everyone!

A great big happy 10th birthday to Boom Stitchers! An enduring part of the studios' history, this fab bunch have been a production powerhouse, taking on upholstery and furnishing tasks in the studios in addition to their own projects and an incredible amount of charity work. We're going to take a look at the archives for a more detailed article but in the meantime, congratulations to the group on 10 years, and here's to many more! #happybirthday #10years #sewinggroup #boomstitchers #boomstudiosbangor

‘GUARDIANS OF THE SHORE’ I feel deeply privileged and honoured to have been given this special place right here beside the war memorial in Donaghadee to paint. Special thanks to Marianne @boom.studios and @ardsandnorthdownboroughcouncil for bestowing this honour upon me with their creative cabinets project. Also thankyou to all for the words of encouragement as I painted especially Emma @artandhomeni always with your encouragement and hugs!! A place of remembrance. A place where stories of courage still echo on the wind. This piece is called “Guardians of the Shore.” Standing at the edge of land and legend — It is my small offering to this place and the people who served from it. A reminder that the sea remembers every call for help, and every soul who answered it. If you find yourself walking the promenade, pause for a moment… and listen. You might just feel the guardians still standing watch. MRS MAKER IS ART xx #mrsmakerisart #mindfulness #horses #fyp #donaghadee

We continued our tour of Holywood schools today, with @jenni_robinson_art and @thedirtypainter leading creative sessions to inspire @translinkni new mosaic artwork at Marino Station. The P7s at @holywoodprimary got stuck right in and were an inspiration to us all with their enthusiasm, imagination and great teamwork! These designs will be passed on to the mosaic artist Helen McLean to help shape the themes of the final piece, look out for production/installation details soon...

Here's some photos from another brilliant workshop for the @translinkni / @boom.studios partnership for the #marinotrainstation project. 🤩 Yesterday I visited the P6 class in Glencraig Integrated PS and we created some amazing work entitled "through the window". We talked about making journeys and how we get there. Soaking up the world around us on our way to our destination. The children enjoyed some movement at the beginning of the session to think about form and flow, before delving on to big pieces of card to create their very own views "through the window". We also played with texture, using crepe paper to enhance parts of the works and add an extra dimension. The response was amazing. Art is subjective and inclusive and everything we create is worthy of having a place in the world, regardless of your perceived 'ability' to be 'arty'. So much creativity came from this class and I was so delighted to see everyone embrace their creative side throughout the workshop, even when some didn't believe they could. The kids were all superstars. ✨
