In early April 500 of these elements were produced, packaged and shipped to the Arsenale, where they stood for 6 months for more than 200 000 visitors. 👽 Currently on view at the Canada Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Picoplanktonics by the Living Room Collective rethinks the pavilion as a living system. The installation is designed to grow and adapt over time, combining design, biology, and ecology to propose an architecture that prioritizes planetary processes over human-centered extraction. The large-scale skeletal structure—fabricated by us—acts as a passive but essential framework, much like the bones of an organism. It defines a series of spatial volumes that host lattices populated with cyanobacteria. Developed for both structural integrity and microbial integration, the scaffold turns the idea of architecture into something biologically embedded, treating the built environment as a component of Earth’s metabolic cycles.
