The 1926 Census is due to be released tomorrow AND we have an even earlier census dating to Dublin in the 1650s! 🇮🇪 The VOICES project is harnessing the 1650 Dublin Census to recover the stories of ordinary women in the aftermath of Cromwellian Conquest. Covering the Dublin baronies of Newcastle and Uppercross, the 1650 Census is incredibly detailed in its physical description of (1,201) women such as: Margery Dowse ‘aged 35 years or thereabouts, middle size brownish hair’ or Katherine Kelly ‘aged 50 years, blind of an eye, black hair’. ☘️ Check out the blog to learn more about these women and the diversity of their backgrounds! Best of luck to the amazing Irish team at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) 2025 which has officially opened in Taipei, Taiwan! 🇮🇪 ☘️ The IOL is a unique event where students tackle linguistic challenges without needing prior language knowledge. Instead, it’s all about logical thinking, pattern recognition and creative problem-solving across syntax, phonology, semantics and writing systems. The competition is divided into both individual and team contests that present participants with puzzles based on diverse and endangered languages. The IOL promotes a global understanding of language diversity and human communication. We’re incredibly proud of our team for representing Ireland on this international stage. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh! [= Good luck to you all!] ☘️☘️☘️☘️ #IOL2025 #TeamIreland #LinguisticsOlympiad #ProblemSolvers #Taipei2025 #ADAPTCentre #DiscussAI #AILO2025 #ResearchIreland
