Dear Nigeria, today, I emerged Top 5 for Head To Head Challenge, securing “our” slot at the Top 40 but, that’s not the best part. The best part is that The CEO of Miss World Organization @thejuliamorley has pledged to support our individual projects with $5,000(usd) to continue our community service projects in our home country.
I am beyond grateful to the @missworld organization for this opportunity to pour out my heart in the same room where world leaders sat and spoke on important issues.

When someone asks why “Schistosomiasis” - a disease one can barely pronounce- means so much to me, I simply tell a tale of how; not just my family, but hundreds of families in tropical regions across the world, deal with the fear of battling this neglected disease. The fear of improper diagnosis or inaccessibility to treatment.
300,000 children die from schistosomiasis annually in Africa. They die from a disease that can be easily treated/prevented all because of the lack of access to the medication and limited information on this disease. It is my joy and pride to be able to not only identify the problem, but take action.
Special thanks goes to our sponsor, the Honorable Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives @officialbenkalu for believing in us and in this project. Hundreds of children in affected communities in Abia State have benefited from this treatment exercise and preventive measures have been put in place to contain the spread.
To the Ministry of Health, Abia State- especially the Director and Head of NTDs, I want to say a big thank you for sharing in my passion.
In the coming weeks, I will share more clips from this project that has blossomed to my life’s work.

I always say that statistics are “just numbers” till one becomes part of that statistic.
The self awareness that comes with being 1 of 1,000,000 children suffering from schistosomiasis is the frightening reality that millions of families in tropical regions across the globe, experience.
While some grow in communities where health facilities are affordable and accessible, some families have to face this life threatening endemic alone, with no access to information, proper diagnosis and treatment.
This project is dedicated to everyone (like me), who knows that fear- the fear of the unknown- ever so well.
