hazelnut frangipane fruit tarts (one had a layer on nutella too 😮💨), roasted plum galette with little ginger and orange zest, and nice tartelette spread with my classmates. i made the raspberry jam with a white chocolate sour cream ganache, but got to enjoy all of the cuties

we had an ice cream party with over 16 different flavors, many different toppings and cookie accompaniments. as i was trying my best to taste all there was to offer and moping up the excess with the pizelles and tuiles spoons. i took this picture. i was reminded of the italian phrase fare la scarpetta “making a little shoe.”
it refers to using bread to swipe up the last bit of sauce from your plate, the motion resembling a little shoe dragging across the surface and picking everything up.
i was first introduced to this idea when artists raphael bachir osman and candice chemlal came to The Invisible Dog in July 2023. they created a long table covered in plates of sauces, inviting people to move along it, tasting and performing scarpetta together.
this felt like a sweet version of that. and a sweet memory to look back on, the last two slides are from their scarpetta.
