Thank you to @zoetilston for having me out assisting on one of the days on another @adidas shoot â¤ď¸
Fabulous day as always, and got to meet @sophieshoob for the first time â¨
A bit of a vulnerable post *post surgery pictures*
Iâm usually a very private person. But since talking about it with people, its helped others and even myself a little bit, so if it helps anyone else then thatâs good.
This post is purely to raise awareness.
Weâre told from a young age to always check your breasts/armpits for lumps but very rarely (as I remember) was I ever told to check my throat/neck for lumps too.
I found by first lump by complete accident, and I remember it so vividly because I was working on my first ever tv drama job, speaking to a solicitor, looking up and randomly stroked my neck. I felt a golf sized lump on the left side of my throat. Ultrasound/biopsies. Was told not to worry it isnât cancer because itâs shrunk after biopsyâs.
A couple of years later, I get a second lump on the right side. Go through the same steps, they take one look on the ultrasound- definitely not cancer. So I left my thyroid.
However when I moved GP and had to go through my medical records with her, she said âI want a second opinionâ. Had my ultrasound and biopsy around my 30th birthday. A few days before Christmas, the hospital wanted to see me. I could tell from the phone call it wasnât necessarily the best news- so thank you to the Lapland girls for stopping my head from falling off â¤ď¸
Had the appointment, was told we think itâs cancer and youâre going to need a full thyroidectomy. Had surgery and it turns out both lumps were cancer. A very watered down version of events đIâm adapting more mentally than anything else about the whole thing and what comes afterwards with medication/treatment.
But thank you to andre and my mum who both cancelled work, looked after me, looked after pepperoni when me and Andre stayed overnight in hospital, to mark and Kevin of course who came too and also to drive my mum.
And to all my friends and family who sent me lovely care packages, I was incredibly spoilt â¤ď¸
Please check your neck for lumps- this doesnât automatically mean cancer! It could be a plethora of things. But still get it checked. And maybe always get that second opinion.
If this post helps anyone then itâs worth it â¨
