When asked by the @hollywoodreporter as she talked about her work when @joyridemovie was coming out, “You’ve previously acknowledged that women and people of color often get one opportunity to fail in Hollywood. Knowing that, what made you want to try directing?” She shared, “You’ll just be in a fetal position if you think about the pressure. I’m glad I got to go through all my failures and dysfunctions in the lower-risk world of television…It’s the first time that we are putting four Asian faces in the middle of an R-rated comedy. If you fuck up — if a project with a queer lead, a Black lead or an Asian lead fails — the industry’s knee-jerk reaction is to blame it on the otherness. Through his work, Joseph bridges artistry and advocacy, crafting stories that illuminate belonging, resilience, and the beauty of shared heritage. 💡ROB REINER 💡 …may his light, artistry, and advocacy live on through others inspired by his work. The world is gutted with the loss of an inspiring and brilliant filmmaker in Rob Reiner. His portfolio of work leaves behind a legacy of genre-defining classics that shaped our cultural landscape - films that taught us how to laugh, love, and stand by one another. Some of our favorite films withstand the test of time with memorable lines that can be on repeat and recognizeable in a moments notice: “Death cannot stop true love. 💻 ANGELA LAPRETE : EXECUTIVE PRODUCER 💻 …of TSISMOSAS- GOSSIP QUEENS Angela is an award-winning producer from Hawaii and has worked in the film industry for over 30 years. Her work spans across local, national and international projects for episodic TV, blockbuster features, and independent films. Her long list of credits include “Hawaii Five-O”, “The Wind and the Reckoning”, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”, the Amazon feature, “Wrecking Crew” and Apple+ new TV series, “Chief of War”. Angiela’s work goes beyond the big screen. She has always shared her expertise by giving back and elevating opportunities for the next generation of filmmakers. In early 2023, she co-founded non-profit, ICAN - International Cultural Arts Network. ICAN’s mission is to empower diversity with focus on Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the entertainment industry, bringing access to high level training, creating pathways into the film business and bridging connections globally. She also served on the Board for Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) for 15 years. Angela earned her BA in Film Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She remains bi-coastal living in Los Angeles and Hawaii. We are immensely grateful and fortunate to have such a powerhouse of partner on our team who has made such a longstanding impact on uplifting diverse communities, especially with Native Hawaiians.
