Welcoming Alfie Whiteman to the Somesuch roster for Worldwide representation
With an eye attuned to capturing moments of human connection in unseen places, director and photographer Alfie’s work is defined by a curiosity for how culture, identity and community intersect
A former professional footballer with Tottenham Hotspur, Alfie channels the discipline of elite sport into the openness of his creative practice. His video portfolio includes a cinematic observation on the World Toe Wrestling Championship for footwear brand Vibram FiveFingers and ‘Keep The Faith’, a movement-driven short on the Northern Soul community for Baracuta
He has shot stills for the likes of On and Paloma Wool, alongside ongoing personal projects, which he uses to reflect on the crossovers of sport, culture and everyday life
Alfie is also a resident DJ on NTS Radio with a monthly show ‘Sweet Tooth’

‘A Loan’ is the debut photobook by Alfie Whiteman, capturing the tedium, frustration and humour of living in isolation for a young adult starting to question life as a professional athlete
Back in 2022, when Alfie was still a professional goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, he was out on loan at rural Swedish football team Degerfors IF. Stuck in the Scandinavian countryside - alone in a small town on the southern shore of Lake Möckeln - he started taking photographs
The result is ‘A Loan’, a beautifully illustrated book filled with surreal, funny, anxious images and diary entries from his time in Sweden
The images are filled with youthful dissatisfaction; a testament to following your own path. They capture not only the mundanity and repetitiveness of life as an athlete, but also the first steps in Alfie’s rejection of the football dream
Last week, Alfie debuted the accompanying exhibition to the book, which runs from 1 May to 27 September at OOF Gallery

**NEW EXHIBITION**
Alfie Whiteman: 'A Loan'
In 2025, aged just 26 and still in his prime, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman retired from football. But back in 2021, he was still a professional athlete, slogging it out on loan at Swedish side Degerfors IF. Stuck out in the Scandinavian countryside – isolated, alone and bored in a small town on the southern shore of Lake Möckeln – he started taking pictures.
The result is ‘A Loan’, a photography exhibition capturing the tedium, frustration and humour of life in the middle of nowhere for an athlete who was just starting to question everything. It documents the first steps in Whiteman rejecting the football dream, and realising that there must be more to life than the same routine he'd been stuck in since childhood.
These are funny, sad, silly, angry, surreal photos filled with youthful dissatisfaction; a testament to following your own path, even when everyone thinks you're mad for doing it.
Now working as a director and photographer represented by @somesuchandco , this is Whiteman's debut exhibition. 'A Loan' runs at OOF Gallery from 1 May until 27 September 2026. The opening night, on Thursday 30 April, will see the launch of an accompanying photobook, filled with images and diary entries from his time in Sweden. Published by OOF and Somesuch Editions, this limited edition book is available to preorder from OOF.
