Sun Gin 김성진

Hailing from Busan, Korea, Sun Gin is a DJ and musician who fills the room with waves of primitive rhythms and sonic elements. Sun Gin's sound widely expands beyond conventional club tunes, engaging unique instrument sounds, melodies or vocals that are unpredictable. <색 色 SAEK / 한옥 Hanok> 두 번째 이야기는 경주의 도봉서당에서 펼쳐졌습니다. 기나긴 역사와 혼이 깃들어 있는 고택의 아름다움은 저희에게 영감을 주었습니다. 옛것인 한옥을 배경으로 울려 퍼지는 현대의 산물 전자음악은 절제된 리듬과 따뜻한 음색으로 자연을 거스르지 않고 조화를 이루며, 이는 우리의 전통 건축 방식인 한옥과도 닮아 있습니다. 차분하고 자연을 닮은 소리는 현대적 질감과 어우러지면서도 평온함을 전하는 동시에, 마치 한옥이 지닌 아름다움과 지혜를 이야기하는 듯 합니다. 차경 속 길게 늘어 놓은 전통 민속품과 목공예품, 옹기, 향로 등 조선 유물 위에 동양 꽃꽂이 방법으로 구절초를 꽂아내려갑니다. 마치 서당 옆 흐드러지게 핀 구절초 꽃이 내려앉은 것처럼 보입니다. 자연과 옛것 사이로 보이고 들리는 현대의 문물이 마주하고 대화할 수 있도록, 정제되고 간결한 것에 집중합니다. 평면적으로 보일 수 있을 법한 화면을 보완하며 마치 직조를 하듯이 수직적인 요소를 더해 입체적인 깊이를 부여합니다. 시간과 공간이 한 화면 속에서 조화롭게 스며들 수 있도록 순간을 담아냅니다. 화면 속 수평으로 놓인 인물과 꽃, 옛 사물처럼, 우리는 시간의 흐름 속에 나란히 놓인 존재들로서 각자의 역할을 맡고 있습니다. 서로를 배려하고 우리 고유의 문화유산과 전통을 존중하는 마음으로 함께 했습니다. Our second story unfolds at Dobongseodang in Gyeongju. The beauty, the history, and the soul of the old house inspires us. The modern electronic music resonates against the backdrop of the old Hanok. Sun Gin and TAERI KIM’s minimal rhythms and warm tones harmonize with nature rather than overpowering it, much like Hanok, the traditional Korean architectural style. Their calm, nature-like sounds paradoxically blend with modern textures, evoking a sense of peace that echoes the beauty and wisdom of Hanok. On long rows of traditional folk crafts—wooden carvings, earthenware, incense burners, and Joseon relics—HyunWoo Chu places Gujeolcho flowers using the oriental flower arrangement method. It looks as if the Gujeolcho flowers, blooming in abundance beside the Seodang, have gently settled there. He focuses on refinement and precision, allowing nature, history, and modernity to converge and converse in the spaces between sight and sound. To complement the seemingly flat screen, jeonyongju introduces vertical elements, weaving depth into the composition and creating a sense of three-dimensionality. He captures fleeting moments, allowing time and space to harmoniously permeate a single frame. We exist alongside one another in the flow of time, just like the human figures, flowers, and aged objects placed in horizontal alignment on the screen. Thank you to everyone… sharing some moments of my set at Hahoe openair @hahoe.kr festival a few days ago. It was an unforgettable experience, especially that the location was in Andong, the capital of Korea’s spiritual culture. Sharing energy in this part of the country felt amazing and strongly connected to my roots. Lots of Korean art, music, performances were inspiring. I can‘t wait for the next year already.
