Hello Harrisonburg… this is a Flock (ALPR) camera. 30 cameras! City council plans to spend $75,000 each year to pay Flock to track you and your family’s movements. These cameras log the time and location of your car and can build patterns of where you go and how often you go there -> creating a searchable history of your movements in the name of “public safety.” Flock is a private company based in Georgia that stores this data in the cloud and allows it to be shared across law enforcement agencies, giving agencies like ICE access to this information. Systems like this have already raised serious concerns about misuse and security vulnerabilities. Dozens of cities and counties, including Staunton and Charlottesville have already ended their Flock contracts. So Harrisonburg, it’s time to ask whether this is the kind of mass surveillance we want in our “Friendly City”.

this weekend was a blur, 10/3 show with @meep.dj + @shartchan + @pickleseller + @fillupmenard was a resync to the present! much needed. a lot of unseen time / energy goes into organizing moments / events, thanks to @thankyouthankyou______ for helping me spread the word / make the flyer! and to the warehouse for supplying a blank room for us to create in. footage is from my ole’ Panasonic DV tape cam. 📷: @analogapril

WE WON! My film “in the hands of a soundless god” won best film and best visual at @supergr8filmfest ! I have to firstly thank my three stars, @shyrocker333 + @stcatherine.xx + @buckgooter -> without them the vision would cease to exist. They dealt with my manic directing nature with grace and delivered such brilliant performances. (I can’t wait for the rest of you to see). Also need to thank my 3 demons: @terryfangg + @daneludwig + @jakegoli who embodied the character of the mask and brought a monstrous nature that made my dream brain weep. And my many clapping / celebratory faceless gods: @mumshackles + @mcrcsms + @vivaappalachia + @loring07 + @benrellick + Riley -> bringing the scene from the vision to storyboards directly to the frame with no essence lost and enhanced presence. @shoz_z_zz helped me tremendously carry / add to the flower portal on that magic Rawley morning (I’d never seen the springs so flowing, there was a mist in the air that gave those scenes a glow, Kyle and I still geek out about how lucky we got), and sacrificed the bloodied creature. @kristinlewisdesign had an angel cameo in an alternate overexposed cafe reality. And @spritbear was my light(n)ing mage for the first scene, and was a deep support during times of despair while I made errors and had a moment of thinking I might scrap it all, he talked me back from that cliff. My brother. ❤️. Last and most crucially, @pfitzzzzz + @paulsomers for bringing back SuperGr8 Festival from its slumber. Imagining all of the organization / logistics / heart that went into the festival is a swirling light beam. So grateful for them and for everyone who was a part of the festival. with the help of friends, the dream grows true. 🪽❤️

my @supergr8filmfest film “in the hands of a soundless god”, premieres next weekend at @courtsquaretheater - October 4th / 5th. Endless gratitude to my friends for giving their mortal time to make this dream of mine a reality, and for dealing with my madness while directing. This post contains a series of 35mm stills I took during the process of filming, and also the poster for the film. I could go into detail, but I want the film to speak for itself. So, I hope to see you at the premiere. Backstory: For those who aren’t aware, the festival is special in that each filmmaker is given an 8mm camera, a roll of film (~ 3 mins 20 sec), and only in camera edits. You send in audio to be sync’d, and no one sees their film until the night of the premiere! Naturally this creates an air of excitement / dread. There is voting for “best picture” at the end. I just want to see everyone’s dreams, see you .
