♥️ We are super happy that Rotting Sounds has been awarded as one of the Most Beautiful Books in Austria! 💫 Congrats to the editors @grrrr_org , Almut Schilling and @_lfsaw (eds.), the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna @mdwwien and of course to @astridseme for the design of this incredible book! Rotting Sounds was a multi-year research project that dealt with the topic of contemporary music recording and in particular with the problem of digital storage. Digital music recordings are not statically preserved files, but as such are affected by a creeping acoustic decay. However, the researchers understand this decay and the resulting products as a new kind of music and a new aesthetic. The confrontation with decay ultimately led to all waste being collected during the research period: From yogurt cups to hard disks, USB sticks, cables, clothing. This mountain of waste was finally shredded and turned into paper, which was then processed into this very publication, which formally and in terms of content treats decay and dissolution as the creation of a new aesthetic and thus confronts an aesthetic of collecting and preserving. Softcover, thread sewn, 35 × 40 cm, 32 pages Languages: English/German, edition: 20, design: Astrid Seme, 2025 Texts: Till Bovermann, Thomas Grill, Almut Schilling, Burkhard Stangl ISBN: 978-3-903353-17-6 As well as a huge thank you to all dedicated places we have been invited to talk about Rotting Sounds: @kunstbokoslo @bookbaufestival @mumok_vienna @mdwwien @buecher.at

Tangible Music Club #8 📅 22 October 2025 🕖 7:00 PM 📍 Stadtwerkstatt Saal, Linz @stwst_linz An evening of experimental sound and performance with ✨ Viola Yip, born and raised in Hong Kong, now based in Berlin, is an experimental composer, performer, improviser, sound artist and instrument builder. In her practice, she develops unorthodox self-built instruments, compositions and performances that explore the complex and dynamic relationships between materiality, media, space, human body and machine body through sounds. ✨ Jens Vetter  is a German media artist and musician based in Vienna. His work connects music, art, and technology, with a focus on sound art, interactive installations, and digital culture. Drawing inspiration from urban environments and everyday situations, he creates sonic interactions that function as musical instruments and also recreate memories or challenge expectations. As a musician he is drawn to synthesized soundscapes, just-in-time composition and pattern-based live performances. ✨ LFSaw is a Berlin-based sound artist and scientist, working with field recording and interactive sound programming, creating sonic experiences and hypothetical islands of immersion and reflection. As professor for Sound Art at HMTM München, he teaches creative coding, sound art and artistic research. #TangibleMusicLab #tangiblemusicclub #SoundArt #experimentalmusic

With the new semester just around the corner, we wanted to start a new series of posts presenting the various courses taught on the Sound Art MA programme. Course Spotlight: Creative Programming with Till Bovermann This course covers the fundamentals of creative programming through practical, application-focused exercises. Following an introduction to programming languages and program design, students will learn about algorithmic composition, sonification, generative sound synthesis and live coding. The course provides an overview of various programming paradigms, such as imperative, functional and object-oriented, and teaches the fundamentals of network protocols for interprocess communication. It also covers how to integrate sensors and actuators into performance or installation setups. #SoundArt #CreativeProgramming #LiveCoding #AlgorithmicComposition #Sonification #hmtm #soundarthmtm ( video of performance TT by @penni.valley )
