This month marks five years since I accidentally fell into freelancing after I’d left my agency job of almost six years. I took the first freelance project that came my way in 2020, thinking it would tide me over until I found the right full-time job. Instead I found that the flexibility and freedom of freelance life was a blessing for my mental health and decided to stay the course.
Since, I’ve worked with the likes of @storyhunteruk and @anishaparmarstudio , as well as @otherbox and @maharajadrinks - to name a few.
Somewhat serendipitously, I find myself consulting with multiple culturally-rooted businesses that allow me to tap into my personal lived experience as a South Asian person, while wearing my content strategy hat. It’s a bit of a full circle moment in some ways, as I started my career working with platforms that celebrate and uplift British South Asian talent.

I think this might be the first since going freelance in 2020 that I’ve taken a two week holiday, and actually fully switched off. Like, removed Slack and Notion from my phone, and logged out of work emails 😅 When you’re self-employed, taking time off comes with a lot of fear and guilt. Every day off is a day rate lost. And it can feel easy to not take time off, until burn out hits 🫠 But this time I’m like see ya later ✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾
🪩 New on Substack: Some thoughts on being whimsical vs intentionally giving into whims - honouring a fleeting thought before the overthinking begins. Where whimsy is about chasing the lightness in the world, whimtentionality is more like a mental workout to practice trusting your gut 💫
