two layered takes messing around with the same patch. The focus here was to learn the @industrialmusicelectronics preset management system. I programmed a sequence of chords into the piston honda presets, and I’m switching between a few lfo presets on the Kermit. super fun. longer version on youtube in a little bit.

Here are two new devices we built in my max for live class: a note skipper & a melody sequencer. continuing our modular approach to m4l, these devices are meant to be networked. In this demo, there are three identical chains, each containing two note skippers and a melody sequencer. I’m using the first note skipper to create the main rhythmic pattern, and the second one to add an occasional rest. For a homework assignment, I’m suggesting students try sequencing another MIDI parameter: clock speed, velocity, note duration, pitch bend, etc.

I’m excited to be teaching #maxforlive this semester! Here’s what we built on the first day of class. It's a simple clock that creates a steady pulse of MIDI notes. In this clip, there are 5 instances mapped to a macro knob, each with a different speed/pitch range. Instant polyrhythm! I’m planning to emphasize this kind of modular approach – simple devices that can be combined to create interesting results.

continuing to explore the #monomecrow clock divider script. this time, I’m following a suggestion from @matthewryals to modulate the clock w/ an lfo, which is modulated by another lfo – which are also modulating lots of other things around the patch. I really like the patterns I find when using slightly rounded square lfos from #mutableinstrumentsstages. all percussion sounds are from clock sent to the resonant filter, with frequency modulation by two outputs of the clock divider, & ‘spread’ modulated by one of the lfos. the full video will be on youtube in a bit.
