In an era where so many dancers are underpaid or even unpaid for sold-out stadium concerts, shows, and gigs — where dancers are often expected to do more work for less money, judged by “experience” while still carrying the entire show, facing racism, color discrimination, disrespect, and being told that low pay is a “good opportunity” — I experienced something completely different with
@karanaujla ( ARTIST ) ,
@himanshu_dulani (Choreographer)
@deeprehaan ( Manager)
and the entire team .
They didn’t just pay dancers fairly — they took care of everything: flights, accommodation, transportation, and three meals a day. Every single dancer was treated equally, with respect and care, regardless of experience, background, color, or anything else. Backstage, everyone felt valued and appreciated.
I still remember during a blackout exit on stage, Karan himself gave me his hand to safely get off stage. That moment showed the level of respect and humility they have for dancers. Deep, the manager, was personally making sure dancers had water and energy drinks backstage. And from Day 1, Himanshu said something I’ll never forget:
“I’m going to try my best to give dancers everything they deserve.”
And throughout the entire tour, he truly stood by those words. This whole experience felt like a dream show with dream treatment.
To every dancer reading this: we, as dancers, are often the reason people continue to underpay and undervalue us — because we keep saying “yes” to every concert and show, even when there is no respect, no proper treatment, and no fair pay. We are told there’s “no budget,” but after personally working closely with an artist’s team and seeing how things actually operate behind the scenes, I realized that’s not always the truth.
So please, stop saying yes to opportunities where your talent, hard work, and presence are not valued. Respect your art, know your worth, and watch how difficult it becomes for shows and concerts to run without dancers.
Working on such a big stage with a huge artist — and especially with someone who has been my idol — is something I never imagined or expected. But I truly believe it was God’s plan.
