Canada just made it a lot easier to ditch your phone or internet provider.
The CRTC announced today that telecom companies are no longer allowed to charge fees when you activate, change or cancel a cellphone or internet plan. Connection fees at some providers had reached as high as $80 — those are now banned. Early cancellation fees for customers without a subsidized device are also gone.
Enforcement begins June 12, 2026 — but providers can already start waiving the fees manually while they update their billing systems. If you have been staying with Rogers, Bell or Telus because switching felt too expensive — that excuse is about to disappear. Canada’s telecom giants have been charging Canadians some of the highest phone bills in the world for decades. Today the CRTC started pushing back.

Two Arrested in High-Stakes Auto Theft at Oakville Dealership
In a shocking incident, two men have been charged following a daring break-in at a luxury car dealership in Oakville, where vehicles worth approximately $2 million were stolen.
The brazen theft took place on January 11 at Lockwood Leasing, situated near the QEW and Fourth Line. Security cameras captured a group of masked individuals breaking through the glass entrance and entering the showroom. They reportedly forced open a lockbox, grabbed car keys, and drove off with several high-end vehicles.
Among the stolen cars were a Ferrari valued at around $620,000, two Porsche 911s, two BMW M4s, and two Mercedes S-Class models.
Fortunately, investigators managed to recover one BMW, a Mercedes, a Porsche, and the Ferrari, all found abandoned in various locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area. An additional Porsche 911 was located on January 12, leading to the apprehension of the two suspects by Peel Regional Police.
The suspects, Amin Hadj Kaddour, 24, from Mississauga, and Joshua Twa’colagiacomo, 24, from Victoria Harbour, are each facing charges of break and enter and disguise with intent. They have been released on bail and are also facing further charges in Peel Region.
The investigation is still active, and police are continuing their efforts to locate the remaining stolen vehicles and other individuals involved. If you have any information, please reach out to the authorities.

Improving Bus Stop Safety and Comfort #brampton #Peel Region / MiWay / #Brampton #Transit I would like to suggest that bus stops in the Peel Region be upgraded with heat cameras for safety monitoring and covered or heated shelters to protect passengers from extreme cold and weather conditions.
These improvements would: • Increase safety and security during late hours. • Provide comfort to riders during harsh winters. • Encourage more people to use public transit. @navjitkaur.brar@iharkiratsingh@gurpartapstoor@sandhu_amarjot@jp_randhawa_realtor@jotvinder_sodhi@patrickbrownont
