“Where The Spirits Got Stuck” by Claire Daly is now available for pre-sale.
For six years, Daly photographed objects and interiors while preparing houses for estate sales. As she pieced homes back together, the sheer number of houses began to blur into a single blueprint. Using a large-format camera, she lets anomalies and the unexpected reveal themselves. The images become a conduit between artist and stranger, guided by what remains unseen.
Claire Daly is a photographer based in Urbana, Illinois. She was a 2024 participant in Alec Soth’s Workshop from Home, a 2025 Fellow at Lesley University’s Low Residency in Visual Arts Summer Program, and a 2024/2025 recipient of an Illinois Arts Council Grant. Her current project of looking for a family cave is a part of Penumbra Foundation's 2026, Long Term Program: The Photobook. @_claired

2025 was filled with new and old friends- I feel lucky to have spent time with so many incredible people this year.
I completed 6 trips to Southern Indiana and will spend next year working up to my dad's cave. (no, I haven't found it yet but I'm in no rush because it has a 57 foot drop 🕳). Happy New Year friends ✨️

Part of “Fields of Vision 2025: Blurred Horizons”, Claire Daly’s @_claired photographs unfold from small acts of attention—what the eye collects, what the camera preserves, and what memory captures.
Her work reminds us that seeing is always partial, layered, and subjective, echoing the exhibition’s theme of perception in flux.

Trip #2 complete ✔️ I now know the general location of Daly Pit, thanks to Chris, a local geologist and caver who knows the area like the back of his hand. I will return this week to continue the hunt!
In 1975, my dad discovered a cave in Southern Indiana. He passed away in 2007, but I am left with his maps, journals, and clues of where to find, Daly Pit. This past weekend's trip was my first step in this new project. Over the next many months, I'll document my attempts at finding the 'hard to find' cave.
I am beyond thankful to have joined @lesley_mfa as a fellow this past week. I met and worked with so many incredible people and it felt great to be back at my school (and in their darkroom!). Thank you @christinemcollins@greerest@calebxcole@brunwinphoto and Stuart Steck for creating such a thoughtful 9 days. 💜
I'm so happy to be included in this year's Boneyard Arts Festival. @stitchqueer and I will be at @art.coop.inc this Saturday, April 5 from 4-7pm. Come by to say hi 💜
Tomorrow ✨️ 3/1 6-8pm join us to celebrate the opening of, encase you forgot ✨️
