I’m thrilled to announce my first solo exhibition in London: “Outsider, Elsewhere” at The Handbag Factory Gallery @aschandbagfactory 12–17 March 2026! 🥂 Private View: Friday, 13 March, 18:00–21:00 DM if you would like to come❤️ When I see sound, I am here again. Sound takes countless forms; it is the shadow of the thing-in-itself. I cannot rely on it, yet it sparks my curiosity. Text, objects, and lip-reading reach across reality and illusion, tracing the subtle delays of being. Inspired by my own experience, this exhibition explores perception where meaning slips away. Sound, language, and memory become unstable structures through which being-in-the-world persists—even when understanding fails. Step into the space and explore sound, perception, and the boundary of recognition. All are welcome. Special thanks to @fin_pupapress being my art director, June and Nick being my curators! Lots of love ❤️ #artist #soloexhibition #londonart #contemparyart #fineart

Outsider, Elsewhere. Xiaohan Luo Solo Exhibition, London 12–17 March, 2026 It is the first time I participated in the whole process of an exhibition—curating, installing, and promoting. I still remember those cold and rainy days, walking through the city to find a space for the work. Not every gallery was open to moving image practices, but I am deeply grateful that The Handbag Factory Gallery @aschandbagfactory welcomed me. You made this possible. Sound always acts like a ghost that tangles with me. I come from painting, yet photography and film have always had a deep influence on my practice. I am drawn to them as forms of recording—ways of holding onto something that is nearly slipping away, something that cannot be fully kept. I want to capture this ghost-like quality of sound and its impact on my body and consciousness. Sound never stays still; it moves through me, passing through the body like a force without visible form, leaving only traces of pressure, rhythm, and disturbance. Through image, I am trying to record this sensation. Not to fix sound into a single form, but to let its movement appear as a trace—between hearing and seeing, between composition and perception, between what is made and what disappears. This is also the first time I gathered almost all the works from my Sound Series into one exhibition. I have never wanted to define myself through hearing loss, yet it is an experience that inevitably shapes how I perceive and construct sound. Perhaps this tension is what I am working through in the work itself. Special thanks to @fin_pupapress for being my art director and for writing such a beautiful text for the exhibition. I will share it in a later post. And thanks to @juneadartuk and Nick for being part of the process, and @ellosexy for helping with installation and the screens. None of this would have been possible without you. Photography: @keykeyyan 🥺🥰thanks to my amazing photographer! #movingimage #contemporary_art #artist #londonart #soundart

My beloved grandpa died very accidentally. He is so young to die at this age. I can’t fly back to China to attend all the funeral ceremonies. I am in a huge sorrow and deep desperate. This week, I cried four times on different days, but no one was hurt enough until I was rang by my father said: Grandpa is died. I still in a shock to believe that. We had suppers when I back to China this January. Just two months, I accidentally met death again. Just before around three years, when my another grandpa died at 80 years old. That is a tragic loss, as right now, I don’t have any grandpas. I can’t imagine it. I can’t stand it.

Her BA is Fine Arts at Jiangsu Second Normal University, China. She also had a Print(MA) in RCA. Her works have been exhibited in the UK, China, and Malaysia. She is a contemporary artist who works in various subjects and themes. She mostly uses time, sensory experience, and memory as the themes of her artworks and expresses them through paintings, printmaking, installations, photography, and moving images. Right now, she is focused on sound and painting, researching the relationship between color and sound. Seeking connections across time and space, and due to her disability, she holds the belief that silence itself is a form of sound.

Very delightful to have a lovely chat with @absent_gallery_official @_lekrish . It is our second time to collaborate together and show my works here. It is the first time that I showcased my work ‘Am I..I am?’ in China, and it really symbolizes the importance of sound to me in last year’s recovery journey. If you want to watch my moving image work, please leave a comment and then I will send the link. I am proud of myself, to be able to talk my hearing, my sound. Again, I have to say: Sound is writ in water. It is my long lasting note and pursue. Sound is me. I am my sound. #contemporaryart #artist #art #movingimage #royalcollegeofart #visualart #videoart #artwork #artinterview #interview #talk #think #soundart #arts #artlife #sound

Two years in @royalcollegeofart has ended! And it is my second time have my graduation ceremony in #southbank #royalfestivalhall ❤️ What a day!!! Still thrilled that I could be offered twice time to study in RCA, with my tutors both in @rcaprint and @rca_masterofresearch that is sooooo amazing for a girl like me whom experienced long term hearing loss and can use a foreign language to study, write and research. I am grateful. But it is not an end for me, I shall keep going and find things anew. I will always return to RCA, and maybe one day I could back to it again as some new role. Thanks everyone, my family & friends, my passion of fine arts and sound brings me here. Special thanks to @jo_chisenhale @fin_pupapress and everyone in Print, @estherteichmann @gemmablackshaw and everyone in MRes. Sound is here, I shall keep feeling sound. ❤️😚
