Birdhouse presents Sandy Kupfer’s solo exhibition of selected paintings titled Soft, Like Wet Cement. Please join us for the opening May 1st, 6:00PM-10:00PM at Birdhouse (1512 S Robertson Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90035).
Soft, Like Wet Cement is a series of paintings that dive into the complexities of complexes, the blessings in tragedy, and the ability to feel till your heart hurts. The series explores concepts from suffering, to the enrichment of mystical realms of intuition, to non-dual belief systems. The work aims to provide a mental shift, offering clarity of what can-be.
Kupfer’s painting practice is like walking an everlasting tightrope: figurative versus abstract, crude versus masterful, violent versus gentle, muddy colors versus ecstatic ones, demonic versus angelic. Hypersensitivity forces an honest and transparent appraisal of what is depicted. These vulnerably charged paintings inhibit one to experience a level of depth which proposes the power to reframe the meaning of authenticity.
Sandy Kupfer (b. 1999, lives and works in Los Angeles) is an artist with a focus in painting, drawing, and tattooing. She holds a BA from Occidental College with a major in painting. Sandy received her MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2025. Her work has been exhibited at Ceradon Gallery, Bolsky Gallery, Wienholt Projects, Devout Gallery, Neo LA Gallery, amongst others.
