A year of many homes Frequently in between nesting, departing, arriving Friendship, community and family The longing for those tips me out of balance, and then it grounds me and guides my direction They are the connective tissues of my being Yes I sound like someone in their 30s And yes the feeling of being in my 30s finally kicking in Many many more moments should be included here but 🫀was more present than 📸

Doing my solo performance Braiding Water @jackartsny @exponentialfestival this weekend. Friday Jan 17th @7 :30pm Saturday Jan 18th @3pm / 7:30pm Would love to see you there ✨ U know the rule, tix in bio ——— Braiding Water is a perpetual practice that connects me to my family—as a daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. It is also a tender dialogue with grief, an imagined mourning ritual that has been lost or forcibly erased for losses that could not be named. Drawing loosely on historical tragedies in China from the 1950s to the present, I trace the experiences of loss and silence across four generations in my family through this solo performance. Honoring the family tradition—Traditional Chinese Massage practices, I delve into the somatic relics of grief, seeking to understand the rituals and physical actions that accompany emotional processing. History and trauma may have stripped away many storytelling forms and traditions through which we could remember, but we always have our bodies to return to. The pain and tension that grow beneath our skin might be an invitation for us to look inward to connect with our lineage. Created and Performed by Xiaoyue Zhang Performance Collaborators: Hua Huang, Shaofen Shi Co-directed by: Brittney Brady @brittneynbrady & Xiaoyue Zhang Dramaturg: Brittney Brady @brittneynbrady , Hua Huang Lighting Design & Creative Technical Collaborator: Kelley Shih @kelleyshih Sound Designer/Sound Artist: Haruhi Kobayashi @haruhi_ Scenic Consultant: QingAn Zhang @zqingan Sound Consultant: Lai-Luen Liang @kailuen3030

Post pt I. EN PARÁBOLA, currently on view at @amant.arts , March 14 – June 9, 2024 Screening Time 12pm, 1:03pm, 2:06pm, 3:09pm, 4:12pm, 5:15pm It’s been a humbling experience being part of this process and witnessing its transformation since 2018, and how the wonderful powerful human beings involved in this process excavate, share and transcend their own sense of agency of the past, and their relationships to “tragedies”. “I’m a strange new kind of in-between thing, aren’t I?”, asks Antigone. Vividly remember the summer/fall of 2019 of us sitting on the floor at night, in the Burbank apartment exchanging tears about the massive uprisings in both of our homelands, one with profound sense of honor, pride, one with overwhelming pain, and fear… A project about immigration, migration, displacements, about grief, collective narrative and memories, about myth and rewriting myth. I’ve been living vicariously through @natalialassallem ’s journey with this project. In many ways it has offered me a space to understand my own grief about historical rupture and loss. >credits see next post 🎬 (So happy that IG has words limit cuz I have too many fav photos for one post…)
