The Heart of the City 5K was more than a 3.1-mile run or walk. It was a powerful moment for the Black community. February is Heart Health Month, and heart disease continues to disproportionately impact our community. It remains the number one cause of death and that’s exactly why this movement matters. We are choosing awareness. We are choosing prevention. We are choosing to protect our hearts and our future. To see so many of us show up…families, elders, young people, friends…moving with intention, supporting one another, and standing together for our health… that was powerful. That was necessary. That was beautiful. We ran. We walked. We laughed. We cried. We danced. We celebrated life while fighting for it. We also created space for participants to receive their flowers…to be seen, appreciated, and honored in real time for choosing their health and showing up for themselves and their community. A special thank you to @cedarssinai for providing vital medical information and resources that directly serve our community. Access to education and prevention is key to closing the gap. To everyone who supported, volunteered, partnered, or simply showed love you are appreciated more than you know. This wasn’t just an event. This was empowerment in motion. Our health is wealth. Flashing it back to that time when I blew up a board that was broken…stripped it and re-shaped it into the 6’1 Classic Fush that’s in this year’s Holiday Opportunity Drawing! - We had 11 different peeps pick out colors and participate in the “lam jam” at the first ever live #ecoboard glassing activation at the 4th annual @agreatdayinthestoke - And now we’re using this beautiful sustainable surfboard to help raise funds for our friends @kavatakids - THERE’s ONLY 24 HOURS LEFT TO ENTER! - There are two ways to enter: 1- @venmo a minimum donation of $20 to: Ry-harris-shapes (enter 7234 if it asks for the last 4 digits of my number!) 2- click the product link tagged in this #igreel to go directly to the site donation page and chose an amount between $20-$200.
