Join us at the reef! 🪸
Nearly 350 visitors, community members, and participants joined us at the
@62center this weekend for the debut of the “Berkshires Satellite Reef.” Part of the global “Crochet Coral Reef,” the project was a collaboration of over 500 participants from across the greater Berkshires community, the country, and many Williams partners.
The opening celebration included a dance performance choreographed by Artist-in-Residence Erica Dankmeyer, with performers Ian Dominic ‘27, Kiara White ‘26, and Christina Zhang ‘27, as well as a puppetry activation of the reef brought to life with the help of New England Puppet Arts and community members.
The “Crochet Coral Reef” was created by artists Christine and Margaret Wertheim to raise awareness to the beauty and plight of coral reefs worldwide. The Berkshire iteration features hundreds of corals crocheted by community members in the region and beyond over the last year and assembled into a vibrant reef in the CenterStage Theatre, where lighting and sound immerse visitors in an underseas wonderland.
The reef installation is free and open to the public at the ‘62 Center for Theatre & Dance through May 12, daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wed-Sat from 6-8 p.m. For more information, visit the link in our bio.
