First Album 'Beginner's Mind' Out Now!
Beginner’s Mind 는 드러머 이선재가 추구해온 철학적 태도, 음악과 삶을 바라보는 시선을 담은 솔로 드럼 앨범이다. 이 앨범은 “초심자의 마음”이라는 주제를 중심에 두고, 비움·흐름·포용·자연·조화와 같은 키워드로부터 출발한다.
“Beginner’s Mind” is a solo drum album that reflects the philosophical attitude and perspective on music and life that drummer Seonjae Lee has pursued over the years. This album starts from keywords such as emptiness, flow, embrace, nature, and harmony with the theme of "Beginner's mind".
총 10개의 솔로 드럼 트랙과 두 개의 스페셜 트랙으로 이루어져 있으며, 각 트랙은 오직 드럼만으로 이야기한다. 그 안에서 나는 ‘소리’가 아닌 의도와 흐름, 그리고 존재의 태도를 표현하고자 했다.
Composed of ten solo drum tracks and two special tracks with my one and only Daniel
@danielbrh , the entire album tells its story using only drums, cymbals and percussion. In these sounds, my intention was not to present “sound” itself, but to express the intention, flow, and a way of being.
각 트랙은 철학적 문장, 모순적 개념과 같은 컨셉에서 시작되며, 연주 과정에서 형태를 집착하지 않고 자연스럽게 흘러가도록 했다. 마치 강이 스스로의 길을 찾아 흘러가듯, 음악 역시 억지로 만들어내지 않고 자연스러운 움직임 속에서 태어나게 두었다.
Each track starts with concepts such as philosophical phrase and paradoxical concept, and it flows naturally without being obsessed with the form during the performance process. Just like a river flowing in its own way, music was born in a natural movement without being forced to 'create'.
이 앨범은 내가 처음 악기를 접했을 때 느꼈던 설렘, 두려움, 순수한 호기심, 그리고 지난 시간 동안 다시 되찾으려 했던 초심의 감각을 담아낸 기록이다. 기술보다 태도, 속도보다 호흡, 결과보다 과정을 바라보는 마음을 담은 앨범이다.
This album is a record of the excitement, fear, and pure curiosity I felt when I first touched the instrument—and the sense of “Beginner’s mind” I have continually tried to rediscover over the years. It reflects a mindset that values attitude over technique, breath over speed, and the process over the result.
듣는 이들에게도 음악을 통해 스스로의 ‘초심’을 떠올리고, 잠시 멈춰 자연의 흐름을 숨 쉴 수 있는 시간이 되기를 바란다.
I hope that listeners can remind their own sense of “Beginner’s mind” through this music, and take a moment to pause and breathe the flow of nature.
