What a night! We braved the snow and cold to enjoy the warmth at the historic Grand Theatre for the Calgary premiere of a new Nollywood feature - 3 Cold Dishes. We arrived before the screening to enjoy delicious West African cuisine prepared by Buka and market fashions and paintings from talented artisans. An evening hosted by local filmmakers Ejiro Onobrakpor & Nenritji Suwa, we enjoyed the inspiring words shared with grace by aloT of Poetry. And then, it was an adrenaline pumping time watching the high-stakes Pan-African revenge film following three women who reunite years after being trafficked as teenagers to confront the men responsible for their trauma. Afterwards, we enjoyed an enlightening conversation and post-film Q&A with director Asurf Oluseyi. What a terrific way to wrap up Black History Month with a screening and showcase of African culture at one of Calgary’s great cultural hubs and the site of what spawned a landmark case on segregation and equality.
