We’re really pleased to share that 36 Lime Street has been awarded £847,932 from the Creative Foundations Fund, part of the Government’s Arts Everywhere Fund, delivered by Arts Council England.
This investment will help us make our building more accessible, improve energy efficiency, and create a new shared workshop and education space—supporting over 50 artists and opening up more opportunities for young people, schools and our wider community.
We’re incredibly grateful to Arts Council England @aceagrams and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport @dcmsgovuk for their support, and proud to be part of a wider group of organisations across the North East receiving this funding.
For over 40 years, 36 Lime Street has provided affordable studio space and a supportive environment for artists working across a wide range of disciplines. Mike Mould, who set up 36 lime street in 1983 would have been delighted with this investment as it marks an important step in ensuring that the building can continue to serve artists and audiences for many years to come.
This is a significant step forward in our long-term aim of making 36 Lime Street a more inclusive, accessible and sustainable place for artists and audiences alike.

Studio holder @steveluckmusic is performing tomorrow evening (Friday 15th May 7.30pm) in one of Newcastle’s most unusual venues - deep underground in the Victoria Tunnel with the Ouseburn Trust.
A solo piano concert in near darkness, with just a small light on the piano keys and music resonating through the tunnel’s historic brickwork. It’s an immersive, atmospheric experience that feels a world away from the surface above.
There are still a few tickets left if anyone would like to go along.

Thank you to everyone who made it to 36 Lime Street for the Late Shows and Ouseburn Open Studios this weekend! It's been a super busy weekend in the Ouseburn Valley. I have really enjoyed meeting and chatting with everyone. I love seeing many friends come back each time, and I love introducing new visitors to my work. As an artist, you spend a lot of time on your own with your work. It's so valuable to talk to others about your practice and hear how they respond to it.
The next Open Studios event will be in November!
Whilst talking to visitors, I was also making these little 'bollard collars', and for those of you who spotted them, I hope they brought a little smile!!

We were hit by some pretty wild weather yesterday. Today however, in true northern style, it’s endless blue skies and wall to wall sunshine. Last day of our open studios today and we’re open 11-4. Every studio in our gorgeous old building is bursting with life, colour and creativity. It’s really quite something to behold. There’s loads going on around the Ouseburn too so grab your factor 50 and your biggest eyes and launch on down here!
