Last week I paid a visit to @henceforth_dc in Washington DC and beer, food and atmosphere was all great. Henceforth, has a number of in comfortable spaces spread across two floors that instantly make you feel at like you are cozy cafe . They pour both beer and wine, so there’s something for everyone.
I enjoyed three beers: Linden Calling — ESB, 5.4% ABV
One for Chuck — Belgian Wit, 5.8% ABV
The Well Fed Gentleman — Belgian Dubbel, 7.8% ABV
For food; the buffalo wings (paired with the Wit) were delicious, and the cheeseboard was outstanding, put together in partnership with @pasteandrind , a local DC cheesemonger. The Dubbel and a great cheeseboard? Hard to beat.
And then the small-world moment of the trip: the bartender Colin was wearing a T-shirt listing one of my old NJ shore bar hangouts. One conversation later, we figured out his dad and I knew each other in high school. You can’ make this stuff up.

@anchoragebrewing is one of my favorite breweries, I’ve had a number of different styles of beer from them, and all have been excellent. Turn, a Belgian style Golden Strong Ale is another one. I really enjoyed this slightly spicy, slightly oaky golden strong ale. Aged in an oak foeder and naturally carbonated, it comes in at 8% ABV. I am usually not a big porter fan, but Zero Gravity’s Irish Cream Porter is an exception. It’s nitro infused and very smooth. Lots of roasty malt, vanilla cream and very dark chocolate; think a chocolatey latte without the sweetness or harshness. Another really good beer from @zerogravitybeer Fresh and hoppy, this is a very good IPA that I have enjoyed many times before. For me, it’s the floral notes that make this IPA stand out. Thanks again to Zero Gravity and @zerogravitysellus for the beer! Sometimes I buy a new beer because I know how good the brewery is. Occasionally, the label catches my eye. In this case, it was both. Back in the day I watched a lot of Beavis and Butthead, I loved it when I saw this label and name. Then I saw it was brewed by @moonrakerbrewing , a brewery that never disappoints me. The combo made it a must buy. This was an unbelievably good hazy IPA. Super smooth, soft, and very tasty! There are friends, and then there are “beer friends”. #beerfriends share special beers and one brought me four different @otherhalfnyc anniversary beers, so he is a very good beer friend. The first one I tried was Dankest Dads a collaboration with @omnipollo and @greencheekbeer . Looking for a beer to define “dank beer”, this would be it. There were also subtle floral and citrus notes that make for an absolutely wonderful resinous beer. 8% ABV. #iipa #collaborationbeer #dank #dipa
Last night, the @pjspourhouse in Exton PA hosted a wonderful #beerdinner put together by their #cicerone , Graham. I went in blind, not knowing the menu or the beer and was treated to one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time. The menu is posted in the reel and can give you a description of the food and the beers. But the first beer pic is not on the menu, a @mainebeerco Dinner as a welcoming beer as we all got settled. And the last pic is an extra pour of @russianriverbrewingofficial Pliny the Younger. I was introduced to some new beers and learned more about some of my favorites. I had a great table of interesting people, Lisette, Morgan and her father. It was great to see Clint, who I have probably known for 25 years, out supporting this great night as part of the companies management. Well done Graham the food beer and pairings were superb! I’m looking forward to the next one.
For 20 years my 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser has been my partner on Sunday morning donut runs. Today we made our last donut run together. It’s got me to and from the airport in blizzards, my daughter to school for three years of middle school and three years of high school, until she got her drivers license. It’s carried me to parks and trails to walk our dogs, photograph nature and ride my bike. It’s made hundreds of runs to the beach in every type of weather with dogs, cats and kids aboard. We’ve had many adventures together since I got it in 2006 as a certified used Toyota. Able to navigate torrential rains and cylcone bombs, @glasoverflowing and I used it in all kinds of bad weather. It had a wonderful split tailgate to make it easier for the old boys to get in and out and it gave me a dry place dry them off in the rain. This week it’s being traded in, where it will get a spa day and go home with someone who will hopefully give it another 20 years of care. I would love to keep it as an extra car, but I already have one of those. I will miss the memories it brings me as I drove it down the road, a song came on the radio, I returned from a walk or when the weather suddenly changed. Thank you @toyota for building such a solid, reliable, go anywhere vehicle. I miss all of my old cars, but I feel I lived the prime of my life in this one. 🥲 I hope I am just as sad when it comes time to let my next car go.

I’ve enjoyed Saison Dupont many times, but this is only the second time I’ve had its big brother Avec Les Bons Voeux. It was absolutely delicious. Maltier and stronger it has everything you would expect from saison plus a little extra citrus, which makes it even smoother despite its 9.5% ABV. The name translates to “with best wishes” so it is perfect for a celebration. I found this on tap at @silverstamplv .
