1F Projects presents: Rick Countryman, Sasa Cabalquinto and Giro Alva.
In this collaboration, the three artists create an environment that people can enter and experience together, where vibration, presence, and bodies and sound affect each other in space. The body acts as the receiver and transmitter of vibration.

In his early 20s, Rick studied traditional jazz improvisation, intervallic cycles and concepts, and extended techniques for sax with Bert Wilson; and recently studied extended techniques for flute with Robert Dick. He began his musical pursuits and “live” education in the 70s in the Seattle area, and since 2011, continues his pursuit within the Manila and Asian scene, appearing regularly in local jazz festivals and jazz/improvisational venues.
In his solo work, Pinkmen co-frontman and songwriter Giro Alva dives into classical territory and displays his virtuosity with the guitar in his all-instrumental album which ranges from beautiful Kundiman to six-string experiments. He is also a film score composer.

No Need for Statements: Ren Hang and the Form of Non-Meaning
This lecture examines the burden of meaning imposed on the racialized body through a reading of the work of Chinese queer photographer Ren Hang. Drawing on psychoanalytic theory and close attention to photographic form, the analysis follows how Ren’s compositions — marked by fragmentation, geometric arrangement, and affective flatness — displace interpretation from questions of identity or expression toward the operations through which meaning attaches to the body in the first place. Sexuality emerges here less as identity or expression than as a structural cut, exposing the racialized body as the site where meaning fails to disappear, and where form remains bound to loss, negativity, and death.
