EN: We’re proud to share that Replikka has been selected for its North American premiere at Hot Docs International Documentary Festival (@hotdocs_ ) in Toronto, and will also screen at the 41st FICG (@ficg ) in Guadalajara, next month. 🎥🌎 Directed by Piratá Waurá and Heloisa Passos, who won Best Direction and Best Sound Design at the Brasília Film Festival (@festbrasilia ), Replikka is a story of resistance. Like the Kamukuwaká cave itself, this story is an act of preservation: of history, culture, and cosmology for the generations to come. Produced by @1504.co , @peoplespalaceprojects / Queen Mary University of London and Maquina Filmes, in collaboration with Ulupuwene Indigenous Association. If you’re in Toronto or Guadalajara next month, we’d love to see you there.

Last year, the @americanredcross commissioned a portrait of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune by the artist, @anita_easterwood . As an advisor to FDR, a consultant to the UN, and a lifelong educator, Dr. Bethune’s legacy is perhaps more relevant and radical now than ever, inspiring generations of Americans towards service and love. 1504 is proud to present “The First Lady of the Struggle,” a tribute by @smstinson that honors the artist, the portrait, and the inspiration. 🔗in bio. 1504 is proud to present REPLIKKA, a short film and meditation on memory, identity, loss, and the rebirth of a sacred cave in the Upper Xingu territory of Brazil. This film invites us to reflect on the ancestral knowledge of the Wauja people and how technology and Indigenous wisdom can merge as an act of resistance. Directed by Piratá Waurá (@pirawaura ) and Heloisa Passos (@helopassos ), the film exists as a reflection on collaboration through ritual, presented entirely in the local Indigenous language and made with support from young Xinguan community members. REPLIKKA has been selected to premiere on September 19th at the historic Festival de Brasília (@festbrasilia ), Brazil’s oldest film festival. It will also show at the Festival do Rio (@festivaldorio ) on October 8th. This project would not have been possible without the generous support and heartfelt contributions from a broad team of collaborators, especially @yularochacastro and her team at @peoplespalaceprojects . It is a reminder that we are all connected, to one another and to this earth we call home.

“Serving others is what we do. It’s part of our humanity.” -Willie, Mana Nutrition In rural Georgia, peanut butter is saving lives around the world. @Mananutrition produces a lifesaving medicine for malnourished children and, while its ingredients are simple - peanut butter, milk, and multivitamins - its effects are miraculous. Distributed globally by aid organizations, Mana has been attributed to saving the lives of millions of children. As the need for the product has been exacerbated by war, climate change, and the refugee crisis, public and private funders have stepped up to scale the non-profit’s manufacturing capabilities to become one of the world’s largest producers of Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). Over the last year, 1504 has been working with Mana to honor its dedicated workforce, raise awareness around the need for RUTF, and to highlight its bi-partisan support in congress, especially in light of recent cuts at USAID. One thing remains clear, Mana is set on lowering the cost of this lifesaving medicine and saving lives. To contribute to the mission, visit the link in our bio. 60 years ago, America changed on the road between Selma and Montgomery. A young photographer named Spider Martin was there to witness it all. But for decades, most of his images remained hidden away, feared to be lost. In honor of the anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” and the moral courage that led to the Voting Rights Act, this groundbreaking collection of images have been meticulously restored. 1504 is proud to announce the publishing of “Selma Is Now: The March for Justice Continues,” available now from the University of Texas Press @utexaspress (link in bio), with an exhibit at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts @montgomerymfa (February 28 - June 1, 2025). Thanks to everyone involved in bringing this to life, and may we never forget the power of collective action. Photography by Spider Martin Published by the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, the University of Texas at Austin (@briscoe.center.ut ) Presented by Doug McCraw and Tracy Martin (@lonelygoatherd ) Produced by 1504 Designed by Robert Finkel (@rjfinkel ) Photo Restoration by Karen Graffeo (@graffeokc ) Printed by Friesens (@friesensbooks ) Copyedited by Ashley Leath (@ashley.leath )

NEW WORK: I’ve had the incredible privilege to design a book that is the definitive collection of Spider Martin’s civil rights images entitled, “Selma is Now: The March for Justice Continues” published by @utexaspress in partnership with @briscoe.center.ut . This book accompanies an exhibit of these images opening this Thursday, February 25th at the @montgomerymfa One of the most pivotal chapters in American history was captured on film by a twenty-five-year-old photographer named James “Spider” Martin. Throughout March 1965, Martin documented the voting rights protests in Selma, Alabama, from “Bloody Sunday” to the final march to Montgomery. His photos, widely shared by the news media, brought the violent treatment of peaceful protesters to the attention of the nation and led to support for civil rights legislation. In honor of the sixtieth anniversary of the events that inspired the Voting Rights Act, this collection of newly restored photographs is a reminder of the impact of those courageous acts.
