“What if we hired people to go on dates for us?” That was the initial question running around my head. And this short film is that question put to the screen. We’re submitting to festivals now so the full film won’t be available to the general public for a moment. But here’s a tease. If it’s not enough to hold you over, you may be able to ask for a link. :) Thank you to everyone who worked on this, advised on this, read a script draft of this, watched a cut of this, and been so encouraging of this. Any success of this project is a shared success. ❤️

I love working with friends, so when Kevin asked if I was interested in putting together a short documentary about a his pest control business, it was an easy yes. “ As many of you already know, earlier this summer @hamiltonmcafee reached out to me offering his visionary directing abilities to help @deli.ole create a commercial to promote the soccer jerseys we designed for the brand. To say he absolutely crushed it is an understatement. It was (and still is) my favorite thing we’ve done for Deli. It was shared over hundreds of times and viewed thousands more than that, bringing a fun visibility and support to our small business. A few days ago , inexplicably the post (and a few others) just disappeared. It was disappointing to see something we worked hard on disappear like that, undermining our hard work, but cest la vie. We’ve learned it won’t be possible now to recover the original post. However, the silver lining is you get to view it again now and comment things like “wow, this is just a good as the first time I saw it” and “ @caleb_sipin sure does look handsome in the open field” (if you feel so inclined). Because the reality is @deli.ole is what it is because of y’all’s support quite frankly and a disappearing video is not going to change that! So like and subscribe extra hard. That being said, we will see y’all all next Monday at La Fête for our 9th pop up! We have some fun plans to end the year and celebrate our birthday as well that we will be announcing in due time. When the subject looks into the lens, the audience stops watching and starts listening. That’s why I love direct to camera interviews. In narrative work, sometimes the audience just feels like they’re listening in. But direct to camera flips it. Suddenly it’s their conversation. To make this as natural as possible, we use a teleprompter with a live feed to another camera pointed at the interviewer; basically a glorified zoom call. All of this just helps us bring the audience from a passive viewpoint of watching into an active job of listening. #filmmaking #documentary #behindthescenes

Non-profit fundraisers usually suck. But this was amazing. We got to partner with @tippingpoint to bring community stories to life in films for their annual gala. The response we saw was incredible. $40M raised in one night for projects all across San Francisco, their highest earning event to date. This is the power of storytelling: moving past “issues” and talking about people. It’s always rewarding to see your work on large screens in front of the right people. First: Betty is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs. Second: this video is part of a whole campaign I got to help direct for the good people of Mana in 2025. They wanted to help bring light to more of the talented people who help make their work possible. Frames from our project with @youversion . Our approach was about creating simply compelling images with lots of intentionality. For that reason, pretty much every shot was on a tripod and leaned on the longer side. So stoked with how these images enhanced the narrative and made space for people to really sit in the story.
