It was a beautiful journey to make this project. We’re honored to helm a story that celebrates the historic moment at Coachella 2023 when six South Asian artists redefined the festival experience and global music landscape.
The first short documentary on Coachella’s Youtube channel is a story that champions South Asian artistry across regions, religions and identities. Thank you to everyone who brought this project to life, and we hope this inspires more celebratory storytelling rooted in art, community and culture.

When I pitched this larger concept to KOI of highlighting our parents stories for this new collection, CMO @iamdebbiegonzales asked me to share mine as well.
My dad came to America for undergrad as premed, but switched to film studies. His love for Star Trek and Star Wars flourished there (he even has a framed letter of response from Lucas Film when he pitched them a follow up concept back in the day) but once he graduated was concerned about the financial risk persuing a film career - for immigrants, especially with parents supporting them overseas, this risk isn't an option. He decided to get an MBA, and I was born right before he got it and he walked across the graduate stage holding lil baby me. This never stopped his love of movies - he and my mom bought a hand recorder (the same one pictured here!) and we grew up making silly short films, which inspired my love for filmmaking as well. I was lucky to have their full support in applying to film school as an undergraduate focus - my dad toured USC with me, snapping sneaky pictures of the "George Lucas" and "Steven Spielberg" buildings, and was front row at my USC senior thesis film screening. I wouldn't be where I was today without him.
This moment is so big and special for me and my family, and I'm forever greatful for the entire KOI team (@iamdebbiegonzales@danielbuezo@weleh_ca@mellow.yelloow@juanred87 you all are amazing supportive creative rockstars) and the creative team below for creating this space where I could share this moment with my dad too. <3

This project was one of my favorites to edit - we got super creative with the media we had available (thanks to @michellethaghost@thechocolatebarista and @ghosttownworld team for taking and archiving all the amazing film, Polaroid, and stills that beautifully portrayed the GTO origin story)
