This June, CreativeZen celebrates 8 years of bringing our community together through inspiration, creativity, connection, and meaningful storytelling. What started as a simple idea to create space for people to gather, reflect, and be inspired has grown into a monthly tradition rooted in purpose, community, and the belief that everyone has a story worth sharing. 🇵🇪 As a child growing up in Peru, I spent many of my winter breaks outside of Lima. During those vacations, we traveled from Lima to Chanchamayo via the Carretera Central. On our family road trips, my grandmother entertained us in the car with snacks, jokes, conversation and road games. The highest point of our journey was La Oroya, over 12,000 feet above sea level in the heart of the Cordillera. From there, we began our descent into the jungle. The altitude was the most challenging part of the trip for me; however, I felt a sense of relief as we started to descend. I loved witnessing the change in scenery from the barren Andean landscapes to the lush vegetation of the jungle. During the road trip, my mom and grandma would point out the various plants we encountered, and we would observe the precarious turns in the road and how far below the rivers flowed—scary at times, with an abyss on one side. Dad was an experienced driver on those roads and kept us safe. Arriving in Chanchamayo was a relief! The air smelled different, and I felt welcomed. We also visited other towns, such as San Ramón, Iquitos, Pichanaqui, and Puntayacu, most nestled in the high jungle of Peru. I marveled at the power of the rivers, the deafening roar they made as they descended from the Andes to the jungle, and the life they supported. We traveled on a “lancha” (small boat) and even bathed in these rivers. These memories are why I decided to paint these rivers now—a connection to beautiful childhood moments, an appreciation and respect for nature, and a deep love and nostalgia for my motherland. @zeroemptyspaces @workatbric #silviaariasart #bocaratonflorida
