(English below) 이동근 작가님 @lee_dong_keun 과 함께 신공항 건설로 사라질 섬, 가덕도에 다녀왔다. 작가님은 섬의 가치와 아름다움을 알리기위해서 매주 가덕도 투어를 진행하신다. 부산에서 육로로 이동 가능한 가덕도는 사진으로는 다 담기지 않는 묘한 야생의 신비로움을 간직하고 있다. 수만 그루의 야생 동백과 셀 수 없이 많은 다양한 동식물들이 살고 있는 섬. 철새들의 중요한 이동경로이기도 하고, 한국 근현대사의 이야기들이 가득한 이 아름다운 섬도 곧 사라질 것이다. 그러나 레비스트로스의 말대로, ‘결국 마지막까지 남는 것은 자연’ 이리라. 포스팅 속 사진은 하영문 포토그래퍼의 작품 #photo by @zerodoor
I recently visited Gadeokdo, an island that will soon disappear due to the construction of a new airport, with artist Dongkeun Lee (@lee_dong_keun ). In an effort to share the island’s beauty and significance, he organizes weekly tours to Gadeokdo. Gadeokdo holds an indescribable, wild mystique that can’t be fully captured in photographs. The island is home to tens of thousands of wild camellia trees and countless species of diverse flora and fauna. It’s also an important stopover for migratory birds and a place rich with stories from Korea’s modern history. This beautiful island is destined to vanish. And yet, as Lévi-Strauss once said, “In the end, what remains is nature.”
