So itâs farewell to Frank Gehry, master of the falling down shiny box style of architecture. Not one to shy away from a soundbite, I enjoyed his declaration that âIn the world we live in 98% of what gets built and designed is pure shitâ. This portrait of him as his iconic Guggenheim Bilbao museum was done for my series of Famous Franks for @annibrasserie at @kimptonmainfrankfurt #frankgehry
This is a plate I designed for @1882ltd which will be auctioned off (along with 59 others) by the end of this week. Money raised will go to a trainee scheme keeping the skills of Stokeâs artisans in buoyant health. My design is somewhat ironic as whoever buys it will clearly be thrilled beyond words, not only with their new plate but in the knowledge that theyâre investing in the futures of talented makers⌠to make a bid go to Givergy and look for 1882 100 years, 60 designers, 1 future. All the plates are also on view at @fortnums till the end of this weekend
An illustration I did a few years ago for a seminal work on the history of Wimbledon called Standing in Line by the late (and wonderful) Ben Chatfield, of the Duchess Kent who died today, touchingly consoling a devastated #jananovotna when she lost the final in 1993. She properly sobbed her heart out and the Duchess, who was supposed to be handing out the trophy to her vanquisher, instead hugged Novotna. The line judge didnât rush to the scene with a brolly, this is artistâs license and very silly. When she wasnât handing out the prizes at #wimbledon she was a music teacher at a primary school near Hull, which is unusual for a member of the British Royal Family. #duchessofkent #brolly
Call me petty but I do find it somewhat intrusive having an advertisement 20cms from my nose for a three hour flight. Thankfully I discovered that you could slip out the coke advert, draw on the back of it, then replace it in the slot! Suddenly row 30 became an art gallery! - and an added bonus I was able to air my grievances towards the man in the window seat for closing the blind. @easyjet #greeksalad #grievances
A sparkling seascape on the beach just outside Newhaven. The boat in the background is the Dieppe-Newhaven ferry which a couple of weeks ago celebrated its 200th anniversary of ferrying. In my next post you will see an unexpected employee of said ferry who worked as pastry chef in 1913. #newhaven #calippo
