I think I figured it out!
Okay, hear me out. The entire time reading this, I was trying to figure out the best way to pitch it. There are parts that reminded me of books like Dresden Files and Dante's Inferno. TV Shows like Grimm and The Bondsman. But I think I decided on my pitch for this book. Now this might sound crazy, but my pitch for Songs of the Dead is..."Heavy Metal Coco". Just...not Disney. A music-filled epic where our metal singing do-gooder is thrown into the world of the dead, only they're really not happy about being forgotten.
This book was altogether not what I expected, but I really ended up enjoying it. I think it'll be important for people not to expect a typical Brandon Sanderson book. In fact, I'd almost say you should just consider this book "inspired by Brandon Sanderson". Yes, there is a hard magic system, really cool world building, and an epic ending. But it has its own style and voice.
As a big fan of music and music theory, I thoroughly enjoyed this. And I think if folks go in with the right expectations they will too. Well done, boys.

Finally got a storage unit! Excited to finally move out of the garage + office + closet situation. Besides, needed to make room for a palette of @m_l_spencer books incoming for @emeraldcitycomiccon !
Great cosy fantasy!
Felt like something warm for winter, and @zsdiamanti delivered in spades. Such a heartwarming story of friendship, community, acceptance, and love. Worth a read if you want low stakes and a healthy serving of goodness. Wouldn’t mind living in the Garome District myself 😆

Voice of War Review
Zack Argyle
A pleasure to review this first book of the Threadlight trilogy. Argyle’s strong debut is exciting, meticulous, and heartfelt. No surprise it was an SPFBO Finalist in 2020 when it first hit the scenes. Themes of secrecy, addiction, family, and duty hang over the story like a pall of fog, giving it a real emotional bite with a melancholic undercurrent. I can feel the anxieties simmering beneath the surface.

Dragonsteel was amazing.
I was terrible at taking pictures. Sold out at noon on day 2 (shipping a bunch of convention editions today to folks who couldn’t get one). And spent the whole convention hanging out with and meeting amazing people.
Not going to tag folks because I’m lazy. You all know who you are.
#DragonsteelNexus, here I come!
Third year attending, first time having an exhibitor booth for the full time. Excited to sign some Grimoire anthologies from @grimoakcommunity . Overall, should be a blast!
Oh, and I have beautiful new shiny bookmarks to go along with the shiny convention edition omnibus!
I finished Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb!
A beautifully written, character driven high fantasy.
In a way, this was like an Epic Fantasy Soap Opera. It shirks the typical tropes of super-powered heroes and epic battles, going so far as to skip over the fights altogether so we can focus on the ramifications for the characters. And there were plenty of ramifications.
Speaking of...the characters are all a bunch of goobers (Althea is selfish; Brashen is self-loathsome; Wintrow is a whiny turd; Keffria is a bad mother; Kennit is gross; and Kyle is the devil incarnate) and yet I found myself completely drawn into their stories, wondering—or maybe hoping—that this chapter would be the time they’d finally be better. The liveships however were all a highlight. Loved Vivacia, Ophelia, and my sadboi Paragon. Could read about them all day.
Overall, great book. Refreshing take on the genre, though I can see plenty of folks wanting something more fast-paced. Highly recommend!
