It took a whole village but, yesterday I finally got my Blue Belt in BJJ. A big thanks to my brother from another mother @jamesbyous for giving me the initial push to try it out a little over 3 years ago. I’ve always had a hard time being able to consistently stick with a physical activity for this long as I’ve always been a bit of a nomad, and have been blessed enough to have jobs that bring me all over the world…. Luckily, the BJJ community is warm and welcoming no matter what continent your on. Thanks to having so many awesome professors and gyms from my OG home gym and @bryan.gregerson and all the professors at @legacypasadena and my new home gym down here in Brazil at @fifty_fight with @fellipeliermannbjj and the awesome team here to all my temporary gyms that made me feel at home like @asenjo.jiujitsu with @diegoasenjo in Orlando or @10thplanetbarcelona with @manu10p I have been able to keep up this awesome sport and get to a place where I don’t 100% completely suck at it. 🙏

2025 was a big one. Started with my city burning down and making the huge life choice to emigrate to a new country. Dove in head first to my new home and came up with an incredible new partner, awesome new friends and too many cool experiences to list here… Took on some new responsibilities at my cool ass job. Created a whole dang new show from scratch and got to work with countless rockstars who made it all a hoot…. Here’s to another lap around the sun with all you dang ass freaks and legends I get to share this rock with!! Love you all!

Episode 12: PSYCH 101 — stream it where you stream Buckle up, because this episode has more mood swings than a toddler who skipped nap time. James and Zach kick things off by fueling their crippling caffeine addictions and pretending to be film scholars. Then, things get physical: Zach is almost officially a Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt, which means he can technically kill you (but gently). Meanwhile, James recounts the time his sciatica hurt so bad his brain decided to go on a little vacation—yes, we’re talking full-blown psychosis. It sounds heavy, but we promise it’s wholesome. We navigate the thin line between “having a mental breakdown” and “having a breakthrough,” discuss why we need more diverse friends, and argue about music.

Feeling a lot of gratitude and pride today as I bid farewell to all the talented folks I’ve gotten to work with the last couple weeks. I’m so lucky I get to make music for a living, and that rad people like @instantlypepper and @jeremy.larochelle trust me to take a fun idea and make it reality with the help of a bunch of the most badass, talented, goofy, kind humans I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with... (And for putting up with my run on sentences in emails) 🙏 Special shout out to the two raddest stage managers in the game @laneymarsella and @laurencandace for being so cool to me and guiding and tolerating my adult ADHD during long tech rehearsals! 🙏 ❤️ Huge congrats to to our new cast of Duets! And a HUGE thank you and congratulations to our outgoing inaugural cast. You are all legends in my book! Here’s to another year of spreading joy and doing silly things! It’s gonna be great.

We’re back babyyyy, crashing into your ears like two caffeinated toddlers in a bounce house. It’s James and White Belt Zach, still proudly rocking his participation ribbon in jiu-jitsu. This episode of Rolling Sober isn’t your grandma’s recovery podcast (unless your grandma’s into armbars, emotional meltdowns, and AI overlords). We’re chopping it up about our sobriety journeys, how not to cry during warmups, and why community is basically the duct tape holding our lives together. Expect questionable jiu-jitsu “techniques,” unsolicited life advice, and us oversharing personal stories like it’s free therapy. And of course, because we’re degenerates who found sobriety but not moderation, we sprinkle in some AI talk—because nothing screams recovery like wondering if a robot would tap us faster than a purple belt. So buckle up, buttercup. We’ve got community, emotional awareness, a splash of jiu-jitsu sweat, and the kind of banter that makes you wonder how we’re still allowed to have microphones.
