One of the most overlooked parts of martial arts training… is play.
To an outsider, games in class might just look like kids having fun. But to a coach, every game has a purpose. Every movement, reaction, and challenge is designed to teach a principle that students will eventually use in live training and real situations.
Games create learning without pressure.
Instead of overloading students with complicated instructions, games allow them to naturally experience concepts like balance, timing, posture, movement, control, awareness, and problem solving in real time. They learn by doing — not just by listening.
For younger students especially, games are one of the most effective teaching tools in martial arts because kids learn best when they’re engaged emotionally, mentally, and physically all at once. When they’re smiling, competing, reacting, and thinking creatively, they absorb lessons faster and retain them longer.
Thank you so much to our friends over at Flint Ridge family chiropractic in La Cañada. After a heavy jujutsu session taking care of the body is sometimes overlooked.
It can help to know what’s going on with your body and how to fix it. Head over to their profile to check them out and stay rolling! OSS
Let’s talk about earning a Gray & White Belt in Jiu Jitsu!
This belt represents more than just techniques learned on the mats. It represents courage to keep showing up, discipline to keep improving, and the confidence that comes from overcoming challenges one class at a time.
Watching kids grow through Jiu Jitsu is about so much more than belts. It’s about building respect, resilience, focus, and believing in themselves every step of the journey.
Proud of the effort, attitude, and progress that earned this promotion and all the others. The journey is just getting started! 💪
