Whew 😮💨, I’ve been a lil busy…
Still thinking about a few nights ago. I got to not only witness and experience an amazing 2 sets of fully improvised music, but also share the stage with a whole lot of amazing people! Not only an honor and a privilege, but a joy and a pleasure. 🙏
These are just a few clips I got from the show, but you can see more like this every Monday night! Big ups to @teddycampbellband for indeed curating a good vibe on a Monday. Oh, and also playing your ass off 🤣 ~ Take care now :)

Hey everybody! I hope everyone’s Summer has been going well!
*Headphones highly recommended, it’s hard to hear since the sound was hot that night*
This is a clip of me blowing over some “Ascension” by Maxwell, a song that until that night, I had not played before. However, the rhythm section I was playing with made me feel right at home, and they really elevated me to higher level of relaxation. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I use ideas, and how I can expand and connect them, and the rhythm section laid down the pocket perfectly for me to try that out! Times like these remind me why I love music as much as I do, and why I want to continue pursuing my craft. I hope y’all enjoy!

Hello again! Told ya I’d be back 🤣
Marquis Hill !! All my homies know his music has been a large part of my influence ever since I discovered him back in 2019. God, that was 7 years ago! 🤯🫠 My homies who made it to the recital know I covered another song off this record for the closer, but I’ll save that for another post… ;)
I’ve always appreciated his message, his energy, and of course his sound, and the more I take in, the more I feel that resonance within my own voice.
I’ll be moving to Chi-Town in just a a few months now, and I’m looking forward to the inevitable rekindling of kindred spirits :))

Aye y’all !!
Lately I’ve been feeling like myself again, for the first time in a long time. It’s been beautiful, and I will certainly elaborate down the line, but for now, enjoy some of the fruits of my rekindled passion! 😆
As soon as I was introduced to her work, Esperanza became a major point of interest in my musical journey. Her delivery of song is truly something unique, and it’s a breath of fresh air every time I get the chance to return to it. Today was one of those days - before it was International Jazz Day, for I had not realized it yet funny enough!
As I was thinking of what to practice today, I figured I’d learn one of my favorite tunes of hers, so you’re seeing some of my first playing along with it!
I hope y’all enjoy :))
Oh, and expect to see more soon. Fr this time 🙈

A couple months ago, my brother Jeff and I got tickets to go see Maxwell live in Detroit. That would’ve been a hell of a time already, but before we got there, our trip had turned into a whole lot more…
We saw an additional show in Chicago: Alex Wasily‘s Good Vibe Wednesday - an improvised show with the baddest cats who hadn’t played with each other before! It was a pleasure meeting Alex, as well as seeing a special guest: @teddycampbellband representing the good vibes of Chicago - on a Wednesday this time 🤣
The next morning, we drove to Detroit a day early to see Marsalle Arbuckle, and play alongside some killin’ middle schoolers at his community cookout! Getting to know Mr. Arbuckle was quite the inspiring experience - I learned a lot about people, and I was very thankful to be a (very comfortable) guest in his house and with his family!
Finally, we got a whole day to chill in Detroit before the show. Unfortunately the Motown Museum was sold out, but that gave us time to find the Dilla and Stevie murals, and get some fire tacos from El Gordo. After that, it was off to the show! Marsha Ambrosius opening was a very pleasant suprise, and the rest of the concert was just a whole vibe, that’s all I really need to say. That Tiny Desk will always stay in my rotation 🔥🔥
And of course as always, getting to hang with Jeff is always a pleasure :) Looking forward to NxWorries on the 18th!! 👀👀
If you read this far, there’s more coming soon, but until then…
~ Take care y’all :)
Day 2 back from my recent travels, blessed to play some duo w/@tateshermanmusic !!
Day 1 shedding Inner Urge! Now that I’m back, I’m itching to play the horn, which always feels like best time to work on new things. This week, it’s gonna be some standards, so why not go straight into the fire, right? 😅
Oh by the way, as y’all know, I’ve admittedly been quite ass about showing my progress out here, but I’d like to try changing that. Y’all are finally going to start seeing some more stuff, so stay tuned - I’ve got a lil bit of a backlog to sift through 😶
~ Take care now :)
*This concert will be streamed on the IU Music Live website; it’s the first link that pops up when you search it*
Hey everybody!
I’m super excited for this upcoming concert on Monday!! We’re performing music exclusively from the Blanton-Webster era of Duke Ellington’s band (1940-42), and the whole band has been really diving into the style and personality of each of the group’s unique characters. I myself am filling the shoes of the great Lawrence Brown, a longtime member of the orchestra, and a staple leader of the section that became known as “God’s Trombones” - rather big shoes!
It’s been an absolute honor, privilege, and pleasure to be a part of Brent’s ensemble for so many years at IU; I can’t think of a better concert to close off than a set of music that Brent has poured so much of his soul into throughout his life. Y’all don’t want to miss this one!
Special thanks to @vickmoone for creating this fantastic poster! I might just have to frame one myself…
