Obf : Patch – Making Sound with Modular
Obf : Patch - Making Sound with Modular is a workshop that deconstructs and reconstructs the process of how sound is created through modular synthesizers.
Rather than focusing solely on complex theory or equipment explanations,
we begin with a short live performance to let you hear the sound first,
then break down and explain the structure behind how it was made, step by step.
In this workshop, we cover:
• The roles of oscillators, filters, and modulation
• Methods of building sound with a minimal set of modules
• Signal flow–based patch design
• An approach that handles both improvisation and structural thinking
This workshop is designed so that
even those encountering modular synthesizers for the first time can understand.
At the same time, for those already using them,
it offers an opportunity to reorganize and refine their workflow.

일본의 아티스트 HATAKEN과 Z_Hyper가 각각 다른 공간에서 공연을 펼치며, 동일한 시간대에 전혀 다른 방식의 라이브셋이 전개됩니다.
관객은 하나의 선택이 아닌,
동시에 존재하는 두 개의 라이브를 경험하게 됩니다.
국내 라이브셋 아티스트들과 함께 구성된 이번 프로그램은
완성된 결과물이 아닌, ‘라이브’라는 형식 자체의 가능성을 확장합니다.

Obf, 라이브와 워크숍 결합한 2일차 모듈러 프로그램 개최한다.
DAW 중심의 제작 환경 속에서 사운드가 ‘결과’로 소비되는 흐름과 달리, Obf는 사운드가 생성되는 ‘과정’ 자체를 전면에 드러낸다. 오는 5월 16일부터 17일까지 진행되는 이번 프로그램은 라이브 퍼포먼스와 워크숍을 결합한 형태로, 모듈러 신스 기반 즉흥성과 실험성을 집중 조명한다.
첫날 진행되는 ‘Obf : Sync’는 서울 Paper와 Shelter 두 공간에서 동시 진행된다. 일본 모듈러 아티스트 Z_Hyper는 아무런 패치가 없는 상태에서 즉흥적으로 시스템을 구축해가는 ‘Patch Scratch’ 스타일의 라이브를 선보이며, HATAKEN은 앰비언트와 그루브, 사이키델릭 감각이 결합된 깊이 있는 모듈러 사운드를 펼칠 예정이다. HATAKEN은 90년대 중반부터 활동하며 Boom, Ozora, FUJI ROCK, SUPERBOOTH 등 주요 페스티벌을 거쳐온 일본 전자음악 신의 대표적인 아티스트다.
이어지는 ‘Obf : Patch’에서는 퍼포먼스 이후 실제 패치 구조와 사운드 설계 방식, 작업 흐름을 직접 해체하듯 공유한다. 단순한 공연을 넘어, 사운드가 생성되고 변화하는 순간 자체를 경험하게 하는 이번 프로그램은 모듈러 신스 문화의 현재를 입체적으로 보여줄 예정이다.

Who is Z_Hyper?
Z Hyper는 일본에서 모듈러 신디사이저를 활용한 라이브 활동을 활발히 전개하고 있는 아티스트이다.
라이브에서는 아무런 패치가 되어 있지 않은 상태에서 연주를 시작하는 ’Patch Scratch‘ 스타일을 구사하며, 그순간 떠오른 사운드를 실시간으로 쌓아 올리는 퍼포먼스를 선보인다.
최근에는 사용하는 모듈러 시스템의 구성을 가능한 한 변경하지 않고, 동일한 시스템으로 다양한 장르의 이벤트에 대응할 수 있도록 지속적으로 연마하고 있다.
